I love that they’re going to be electrifying the Manchester to Stalybridge line and York to Church Fenton.

These projects have already been, or are nearly, fully constructed!

Think you have two choices when you need to reduce debt , spend less or raise your income (taxes). Labour always go for the latter. I would love to know how much is paid in any kind of benefits to people who weren't born here. I don't care what anyone says to the contrary but the benefits available contributes massively to the number of immigrants both legal and illegal and as a country we can't afford it. Tax the rich who can afford it for sure but give it to the pensioners who've contributed taxes for 40 odd years and deserve a decent standard of living without worrying if they can afford to keep warm and eat.

Nobody likes tax rises but we have to pay for services so on the face of it, I’ve no real issues in todays budget so long as it’s delivered and we see improvements

Fair enough. About 80% of “benefits” go on tax credits and pensions.

The rest have already been cut to the bone. I’m not sure where you can make any significant savings on the 10% that goes on welfare.

Thousands of people with tiny company pensions are excluded from all sorts of benefits whilst those who's pensions are smaller reap the additional benefits through pension credits and associated extra benefits that take their income way higher.

The problem there is that everybody’s situation is different and wherever you draw your lines will leave a certain percentage destitute.

Means-testing costs a lot, unless a new, cheaper way of determining who should qualify is found. Ie It’d cost the country more to means-test WFA than to pay all pensioners at present.
