Last Budget before the official Brexit date and it's looking like a big one.

Poor Phil. His PM has told the nation that strict austerity is over but can't tell him what the deal with the EU will look like. So spend more, but I don't know how much you can spend. They've also got some commitments on tax allowances coming up, raising thresholds to £12,500 and £50,000. On top of that, May has already promised an extra £20bn to the NHS and there's pressure of Universal Credit that may require some investment.

Then you've got the idea that Tory backbenchers aren't going to be pleased over any increases on taxes.

Poor Phil.

Any predictions on how this will land tomorrow?

The usual fare; give with one hand and take with the other. Broadly neutral spend with the middle squeezed, the most affluent gaining and some promises to the poorest that kick in 3 years down the road.

I think Universal Credit will get some positive attention, mainly because it's had 3 negative headlines in the last 2 months at least. Not sure how that will appease the Tory voting base though.

If they are going to end austerity let’s hope the top rate of tax is scrapped which was raised to 50p on a “temporary basis” after the bank crash, it came down to 45 a few years ago do you think it might come down back to 40p, which labour had at it pre crash.

Because if you make the rich pay more tax then what you do is force them to find creative ways around that tax therefore making them pay less tax than they already do.

Taxing the rich is a right wing plot to help rich people.

Perhaps.

Here we go. Has anyone mentioned privatising the NHS yet?

"The end of austerity is upon us!"

Beer and fags up 3%

Corporation tax cut by 5%

Plebs income tax up to balance.

NHS to charge £10 for GP appointments

Businesses to get further tax breaks if they offer their employees private health insurance

Not unless that **** Osborne is doing the budget.
