One of them (Venables) was rearrested a few years back for having child porn. So much for rehabilitation. As has been stated earlier, 10 year olds certainly know that killing a young child, and leaving his body across the train tracks to be decapitated, is wrong. Two questions;
1. What is he likely to contribute to society now?
2. Would the world be a poorer place if he was no longer alive?

They were 10, they knew what they were doing. We took away their freedom, but at such a young age, you don't really appreciate freedom as an adult would, they probably didn't really feel it. But what else could be done.

Wanting the state to be able to kill children is fucking warped. We are a civilised society, this isn't the USA, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Yes they should have been punished but killing children is nothing I want part off.

My lad was the same age as the killers.
I think the real debate here is how they were 'punished' after but certainly not hanging kids

I won't watch the documentary as it's too upsetting, but what I would like to state is that this kind of horrific crime is so rare that it is almost impossible to use it as a way of setting laws for the vast majority of crimes that are the norm.

For instance, you might rightly wish the murderers to be killed for what they did, but come on, hanging children in the United Kingdom??? In this day and age? I don't want it, and I would hope we could at least try to rehabilitate the lads - it seems one of them at least has kept his nose clean, despite being in care for the rest of his childhood, so maybe a 50% success rate in this story?

Again, I would ask how often crimes like this happen, once every twenty years? Longer? We should be happy we are living in such a safe society where this is completely abnormal, and we do not kill children ourselves as a country (at least not our own kids, one's in the middle east, that's another sorry tale).
