Really like the look of FC Koln and RB Leipzig this term. How is Hector for a LB, anyone fancy him?

Plus, does any BuLi expert think Naby Keita would be a good acquisition for a top 4 PL team?

It's great to see a city from the former East Germany with a team doing well in the top flight. It would be great if Dynamo Dresden - one of Uwe's former clubs - in there too.

Hopefully, Hertha will maintain their top three challenge throughout the season, rather than trailing off towards the end.

Hector was good enough to be a starter for Germany in every match of the tournament at the Euros. So he should be semi decent at least. ;)

Proper football return this weekend and then next weekend I'm making my first trip of the season to Germany.

I'll have a bit of time to look around each place I'm visiting with most of Friday in Würzburg, most of Saturday in Darmstadt, and most of Sunday in Leipzig, so I'm looking for advice on touristy things to do.

@Schalker has suggested I try a "Schäufele mit Klos" during the trip, and I think the Volkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig has been mentioned on here before so I'll make a trip to that. Unfortunately a tour of the European Space Agency in Darmstadt is not possible on a Saturday.

Any other suggestions?

Beside "Schäufele and Klos" they are growing grapes on the hills around Würzburg which gives some of the best German wines in a "Bocksbeutel" :o)))

When you interested in history and culture you can visit the Würzburg residence which is on the UNESCO Heritage list.

more info on wikitravel

So when wine is the favourite drink in the Würzburg area there is Äppelwoi (cider and Bembeltown can tell you more about it) in the Darmstadt area.also main architecture is different.
Therefore when interested visit
ForLeipzig there is indeed the Völkerschlachtdenkmal from the wars against Napoleon and as far as drink and food is concerned the Auerbachs Keller in the Mädler Passage (a shopping mall)

If Dormund were not so inconsistent they could challenge Bayern for the title this year. As it seems at the moment Cologne will have to do the job instead....;)

But seriously...Bayern only got 2 points out of the last two games against Cologne and Frankfurt. I didnt watcht the Cologne game, but they looked really vulnerable gainst us even when they went up twice and when we went down to 10 man.

Definitely something is wrong with the players attitude, tactics or whatever. They seem to be completely helpless without Vidal in midfield and the only player who seemed to be pissed with their performance on the pitch was Boateng.

Long may it last...

@cptaidan88: I have never been to Würzburg, so I cant really comment. The last time I was in Leipzig was during VFB Leipzig times and it was an "get in and then get out asap" affair. ;) Pretty sure a lot has changed every since as Leipzig has become a bit of a hipster place from what I have heard.

In terms of Darmstadt you can find some information here:

In my opinion there are no must sees, but its a students town, so you should be easily able to find yourself a place to drink.

Kneipe41, Chafe Chaos and a place called "Hobbit" are decent places for some food and drinks.

I'm having my first taste of German footie next week with St Pauli v Hertha in the Pokal on Tuesday and then Borussia M v Frankfurt on the Friday (with a little trip to see Joe at the San Siro in between). Really looking forward to it I have to say.

"If Dormund were not so inconsistent they could challenge Bayern for the title this year." No they are just Bayerns feeder club.

Cheers @Bembeltown and @Schalker for the advice - I'll check your recommendations out.

Sounds like a good trip. I'm going to the San Siro for the Derby in November but I've not been before. I'd be interested to hear your opinion on it and any tips.

St Pauli is a very popular club for British supporters. There is a UK forum if you want to arrange to meet up with fellow Brits (but the locals are more interesting and generally speak better English anyway!). I would recommend going to the Jolly Rodger which is opposite the stadium and there is another good pub down the road which I think was called the St Pauli Eck. Be sure to have a "Mexicana" chaser with your Astra Beer.

Whilst they are commendable, I found the anti-fascism, anti-racism, anti-homophobia thing a little contrived (those views shouldn't be driven by the team you support - you either have them or you dont), but you can't have a bad night in Hamburg and it was an enjoyable evening when I went. St Pauli are doing very poorly this season though so it would be difficult to see them getting anything out of a game against Hertha.

There isn't much to say about Mönchengladbach. Its a fairly small city but everyone supports Borussia. There is a place called Rheydt which has a few supporter bars near the station, but not sure what it would be like on a Friday during the day. I'd stick to Düsseldorf or Köln during the day. The ground is out in the middle of nowhere so the bus from either Mönchengladbach centre or Rheydt takes a good 15 minutes. There is an Aldi at the ground and I think they've introduced a small fanzone since we went last season but I wouldn't make an effort to get there too early.

Enjoy!

See that's why I love this forum; thanks for the info and those who provided advice on last year's thread. I have a mate who is a St Pauli season ticket holder so hopefully he will know the best places to go. Comments re Borussia M duly noted
