before this thread is completely thrown back into 1945, here some news from the german cup

Werder Bremen has gone out 1-3 in extra time at 3rd league 1 FC Saarbrücken. Werder is going to have some troubles this season, i believe.
Even bigger surprise:
SV Darmstadt (League 3) - Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-4 on penalties
Also Eintracht Braunschweig is out, 2-1 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld (Bundesliga 2)

all other Bundesliga clubs are through so far (Bayern and Schalke in action tomorrow)

Borussia Dortmund had an easy 3-0 win at 4th division SV Wilhelmshaven. There is a german word for a striker who misses best chances: "Chancentod" (chances´death). I think in Aubameyang they signed one.

Dortmund's win was far from easy. They needed 71 minutes to score... Already smelled like that kind of sensation you like in the first Cup round.

a good horse never jumps higher than it has to

Never expected Bremen and Gladbach to go out so soon lol. I'm really happy for Saarbrücken and SV Darmstadt 98 though, big wins for them!

Add Nuremberg who went out against Sandhausen in the evening.

Pardon me - I only read this thread sporadically - but I thought use of flares was frequent and even encouraged (by fans) in Germany? Is German football going the way of English football, where things like flares and smoke grenades are banned to create a (boring) "safe" atmosphere?

Re: Bundesliga review

flares are strictly banned in german football. Clubs are paying heavy fines if their fans use them

Banning flares, smokebombs or firecrackers sure takes it's toll on the athmosphere but there doesn't seem to be any alternate way since every now and then non-participants sustain injuries such as burns, fume-intoxication or loss of hearing, as with the recent case of a 4 year old boy who had to be treated in a hospital for fume-intoxication and eye inflammation after Fortuna Düsseldorf away support lit some flares in a neighbouring block during the game against Hoffenheim.
Or the famous case of Oliver Streicher who worked as a groundsman for Eintracht Frankfurt and got his hearing disabled by a firecracker (not the usual stuff) that exploded a few meters away from him. That one was caused by Nürnberg away support back in 2008. After that incident he not only lost his hearing but also his job because his fear made him unable to tread on stadium grounds from then onwards. Poor bloke went to a shrink then because his son wanted to visit a game with him at least once. Don't know how it played out though.

Of course most groups/individuals who light flares try to do it in a way that doesn't endanger fellow supporters but every now and then you got one of those guys who just don't give a fuck about other people's wellbeing. As long as those types are around, banning flares and such seems to be the sensible way.

Re: Bundesliga review

Are football grounds no legal ground?

In Germany it is forbidden to do fireworks or pyrotechnics without a special permission in the time between January 2nd and December 30th. That is what the law says.

Theater productions or fireworks at festivals need to get a special permission from the town administration.

So - yes - it is forbidden... - and it is not something the clubs can influence (they even have to work against it as they are the owners of the ground).

Re: Bundesliga review

Leverkusen obtained an interim that interdicts viagogo to offer Leverkusen tickets before they go on sale by Leverkusen or their partners themselves (wonder how it works with season tickets)...

http://www.bayer04.de/b04-eng/en/_site_index.aspx

German FA (DFB) also considers legal action against viagogo (for they offer tickets that haven't been issued yet, let alone exactly priced...).
