Bundesliga review part 2. the new one :)

there is that saying about 1. FC Nürnberg, nicknamed Der CLUB: " Der CLUB ist ein Depp" (the CLUB is a fool), which says it all.
Münster is one hour north of Gelsenkirchen, but their main rivals are VFL Osnabrück and Arminia Bielefeld.

All you would need is Bochum, Duisburg, and Essen back in the Bundesliga, and every week would be a local derby.

would love that, because:
Schalke fans hate Borussia Dortmund and RW Essen (and Cologne)
Dortmund fans have a soft spot for RW Essen (and Cologne) but hate Schalke
RW Essen fans have some sympathy for Dortmund, but hate Schalke (even more than Dortmund fans) and RW Oberhausen, Wuppertaler SV and MSV Duisburg and even themselves.
RW Oberhausen fans quite like Schalke, but hate Essen, Duisburg and Fortuna Düsseldorf
VFL Bochum fans are in a sandwich position between Schalke and Dortmund and hate both (and Wattenscheid 09) but Schalke and Dortmund fans don´t really care about them.
Duisburg fans hate everything, but most of all Schalke, and also Essen, Oberhausen and Düsseldorf.
You see, having all that clubs in the Bundesliga would make real fun :-)

You are actually right Ruhr, no idea why I was thinking Nürnberg instead of Kaiserslautern....

Maybe because at the time Lautern and us went down Nürnberg was usually in the mix as well.

BT Sport 2 have Live coverage of Hamburg v Schalke and Paderborn v Stuttgart on red button if you want to follow those games.

Maybe I am just a bit bitter as Frankfurt, Nürnberg and Hamburg used to be the last remaining founding members of the Bundesliga who never played in the 2nd division, until it went downhill for us and Nürnberg.

..

Guess, you mixed up Nürnberg with Kaiserslautern? Nürnberg already went down after their championship season in the 1960s (the only club who ever did this, and of course only they could manage such a stupid thing)

by the way: founding members of the Bundesiiga

1.FC Köln
Meidericher SV (MSV Duisburg)
Eintracht Frankfurt
Borussia Dortmund
VfB Stuttgart
Hamburger SV
1860 München
FC Schalke 04
1. FC Nürnberg
Werder Bremen
Eintracht Braunschweig
1. FC Kaiserslautern
Karlsruher SC
Hertha BSC
Preußen Münster
1. FC Saarbrücken
FC Ingolstadt 04 ;)

Only Münster disappeared forever (League 3), Saarbrücken is long gone (Regionalliga, 4th division). All others are at least Bundesliga 2

Just a few hours before the climax of what must surely be the most exciting battle for survival in the history of the Bundesliga and 2. Liga.
Without doubt these two final match days are the best days of the season, with all nine matches kicking off at the same time, especially if you actually attend any match. For the fans of the clubs involved it's nail biting stuff, watching your team on the pitch, one eye and ear close to your phone/radio (as most clubs don't announce results from other places on that occasion). Still, I cannot really put into words how glad I am Cologne aren't taking part in it :-) and have avoided any real trouble throughout the season.

I don't really care who's going down, it better be one or two of the "bigger" clubs like Hamburg or Stuttgart rather than Paderborn or Freiburg (might as well make things easier for Cologne to stay up next season as these clubs will invest heavily). Having said that, Cologne's record against Stuttgart or Hamburg is by far better(in recent years) than against Freiburg (Cologne lost all three matches league and cup), so I will not be crying if it's them. However, a play off between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Kaiserslautern could be tasty. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Darmstadt, hope they win and claim second spot and direct promotion to complete the fairy-tale. Could be a bit of an irony that this might send St. Pauli into the 3. Liga, just a day after their celebrations that the Hamburger SV - Bundesliga clock came to a halt... (though I think Hamburg will stay up anyway and St. Pauli will capitalise on their relegation rivals' Aue, Munich 1860 etc. slip ups and stay up as well.)

Can't believe that I'm actually getting nervous waiting for Hamburg v Schalke. It's so reminiscent of City v Luton/Charlton/Bradford/Liverpool/Stoke/Gillingham/Blackburn/QPR (and I did them all)

Bembletown has convinced me that if I was German I would probably hate Hamburg, but I have to confess to joining their supporters club in 2004.

Also (and I suspect I'm not alone amongst City fans) I hope 1860 stay up in the 2nd division.

This is more interesting than the Premier League

I think Stuttgart will beat Hamburg next week, but Freiburg. Hannover and Paderborn will all lose. Hertha will draw with Frankfurt.
However on the last day, Hamburg will beat a disinterested Schalke, and Hannover will beat Freiburg. I’ve also got a sneaking suspicion that Stuttgart will win at Paderborn.

I'll plump for Paderborn and Freiburg automatic, and Hannover winning the play off

Actually my predictions from two weeks ago weren't that far off

Sad to see Freiburg go down. Strange attempt at a clearance for the Hannover second goal which ultimately sent them down. I thought that game was destined for a draw.

Hamburg live another day. Could be a tough couple of games for them, whoever they play.

Hoping one way or another Kaiserslautern go up and I'd aslo prefer both 1860 and St Pauli survive.

Di Matteo out.

oh, i´m waiting for this news for weeks now, but i´m afraid, he will stay to ruin the club. One of the worst coaches i´ve ever seen at Schalke.

Don't care about Schalke, the **** has given Hamburg a chance of staying up.

A few questions.

Would you rather Germany win Euro 2016 or Schalke win the Bundesliga next season?

Do Bundesliga teams receive "Parachute payments" if relegated?

Is League 3 a national league?

In your opinion is the German national team stronger because most of the major clubs have b teams/youth teams playing senior football? (not sure if you're aware, but the Head of the English FA was recently slaughtered by the media for suggesting that we should do the same)

Whatever happened to Dynamo Berlin?

Regardless of whether you like/dislike Hamburg, what happened to all the money they received for De jong/kompany/Boateng/Van Buyten?

No. What is often misunderstood: The Bundesliga is both: Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. Both are run by the Association of Bundesliga clubs DFL. TV deals etc are negotiated by all 36 clubs and for both leagues. So there is not such a big gap between both leagues like in England

Yes, it is kind of a Bundesliga 3, but organized by the German FA, the DFB. Main difference: U 23 teams of the Bundesliga clubs are allowed to play in League 3 and the license is granted by the DFB

Not sure, as many Bundesliga clubs had already given up their U23 teams. They say, that talents these days make it directly from the U19 to the Bundesliga team. Schalke has still a U23 team, but Draxler, Meyer, Sane went just straight from the U19 to the Bundesliga.
Schalke is by the way playing the german U19 championship final vs 1899 Hoffenheim on monday. And many Schalke fans love that team more than the Bundesliga team these days.

They are playing League 4, division northeast, and have qualified for the first national cup round next season

They spent millions on average players and several coaches.

Cheers mate. Much appreciated.

Incidentally, when we went to the Schalke-Hoffenheim game, a Schalke fan explained the heartbreak of your 2000-01 campaign and then showed us the last minute drama on Youtube. (that was never a back pass in a Month of Sundays)

I suppose it was the Aguero moment, but QPR equalizing straight from the kick off.

However, City are living proof that Schalke fans should never give up.

Re League 3 Play Offs, thought my favs Aaachen were in them?

Mother of God, I forgot all about Aachen.
I was drinking with some of their fans before the Italy-Bulgaria game at Euro 2004. Aachen had just qualified for Europe after reaching the German FA Cup Final and losing to someone who had already qualified.

They kept saying, "We're the same as Millwall" (who had just lost to the Rags) and I kept replying, "You're nothing like Millwall. You're decent football loving enthusiasts, just like me"

Well, it seemed funny at the time.

well, if anyone even remembers a Bundesliga club named Uerdingen 05, they have been relegated to League 5, division north rhine, today.
