Second round of the cup has been drawn. Not really any exciting fixtures. From a fan perspective Mannheim/Frankfurt vs Nürnberg/1860 could get tasty especially as the match is played in Mannheim. :-)

What a weekend in the Bundesliga...Freiburg in 1st place, Bayern draws the second game in a row against Union and we twat the rats 4-0.
I went to Leverkusen v Freiburg. Not sure how Freiburg won, Leverkusen were much the better team even if they weren't that good. Diaby was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. Patrick Schick was bobbins even though he scored.

Went to Dortmund v Hoffenheim the evening before. Dortmund were OK in the first half but awful in the second half. Kept a close eye on Bellingham, some nice touches in the first half but he completely disappeared in the second half. Not ideal if you are meant to be a dominating centre mid. In the end, they were very lucky to get away with a win. If they play like that against us in the CL we will hammer them.

Angelino came on a sub for Hoffenheim in second half. Good going forward but looked like he was carrying a fridge whenever he had to head back towards his own goal.

It was great to be back in Germany after a 2 year absence. Stayed in Dusseldorf. Great food and drink at Im Fuchschen and Schumacher Brauhaus.

Back again in March for Schalke v Leverkusen and Fortuna Dusseldorf v Hamburg.

Sounds like you had fun! And it's amazing how everyone always seems to end up drinking "Im Füchschen", I really wonder how much money they make from football fans alone.

Tonight is a big night for Eintracht Frankfurt, first time in our history that the CL anthem will be played at the Waldstadion.

I mentioned it a couple of times already, but as someone who grew up with Frankfurt beeing closer to bankruptcy and the second division than to the Champions League this feels completely surreal.

Frankfurt released a nice trailer for the match which shows some of the most memorable heartbreak/success moments of our recent history.

Video shows some legends of our game like Tony Yeboah, Charly Körbel (who still holds the record for most Bundesliga matches played with 602 and all for Frankfurt), jan aage fjørtoft with that iconic crossover against Kaiserslautern to end of the most insane relegation battles ever in BuLi history, Jürgen Grabowski who passed away earlier this year and of course the "Football god" himself: Alex Meier.

I am not a big fan of the rap music towards the end of the video, but it is actually a nice touch as the lines are rapped by Bosca, a local rapper and member of Ultras Frankfurt.

Looks like there is some excitement around the CL.

Our CL shirt got sold 10000 times within the first 24 hours. I knew that the CL was a money printing machine, but I actually didn't factor in the merchandise sales.

The shirt is similar to our home shirt. Clean black with the typical structure of a "Geripptes" on it. A "Geripptes" is the traditional glass that is used to serve the local speciality called Apfelwein. Or as us locals call it "Aeppler" or "Ebbelwoi".da3f92ac-86c6-449d-9ce2-879c46700dfc.jpeg.jpg
