Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

Watching extended highlights again does prove that Mahrez is without doubt, a skilful individual. His first touch and control at times was nearly as good as Bernardo.
However, he is still playing for himself. It’s evident when there’s a pass on, yet he will ignore it and go for the blast into the defenders legs.
Play for the team please. Up your work rate and improve your game decisions.

Except he wasn't winning the ball or going past people......for far too long he looked unfit, the opposition ran passed him like he wasnt there and he was frightened to put his foot in.

Thankfully, almost miraculously,he has reinvented himself to such a degree that he is a definite contender for POTS.I can't praise him enough for such, just outstanding.
Here's my take on Ilkay. First I'm guessing he's quite a modest guy so in a team with D.Silva, KDB and Fern being the big personalities in midfield he didn't push himself into the limelight. More significant,I think injuries at Dortmund and with us spooked him into believing he could never again be the player he had been. My mate who follows Bundesliga avidly says we are seeing now the player that he saw in his best Dortmund days.So what's happened? Maybe with the big personalities out, he's decided to give it another heave and realised all the talent and ability is still there, he doesn't need to worry about his knees and he has the opportunity to be the big personality. It's a delight to see him in his present form. On a side issue, it seems to me that Pep likes decent guys who aren't always the big personalities and don't always have faith in their ability, He enjoys working with them. Maybe Berny, Jesus, and Stones are examples of that. Probably others too.

Everyone on sky's football show agreed that the foul on Jesus was a penalty. Now with var questions have to be asked why it wasn't given and they should answer. It's the same as David Silva's at Bournemouth the other season. It was clear and obvious and not given. It's cheating pure and simple. At 2-0 it could have cost us. Burnley could have scored and we're under the cosh instead of coasting 3-0. If it was 0-0 or we're losing again it costs us. It's just not good enough.

You've answered your own question 'blatant cheating' is what it all boils down too. You're right, Burnley knick a goal and the game changes I know it's all ifs and buts but it was definitely a possibility. 3-0 and the game is dead and buried.
The only way for them not to give that penalty is because the simply didn't want too. Clear and Obvious is in place to help the likes of the Rags and giving them their helping hand back to the top...

Corrupt bastards.

His take from Eddie’s long pass was sublime.

Well clearly, the highlights didn't show you everything as he was a good team player last night

He was probably still fuming Sterling didn't square it to him.

My brother who's lived in Germany for 40 years said about Gundogan when he signed for us " he's very much a team player"

There wage bill in 2018 was 82m expect it to be more now that’s where most clubs money goes to
The last total revenues for Burnley I can find before Covid were £138m and they were in profit. If they were properly run they should be very competitive. Perhaps the new owners will do a better job (though I doubt it). They could easily improve their style of football and remain in the PL.
The same applies to West Brom if they were properly run like Leicester or Wolves. These clubs don't have to play boring football. Over the years City have had some terrible teams but, apart from the Pearce tenure, we have always tried to play football and never been boring. It is not just about money. Mourhino had loads of money at United but they were still dire to watch. What about fantastic clubs like Atalanta in Italy who have no resources but are a joy to watch.

Its clear that the criteria for giving pens for the rags is,
Player has gone down with possible contact = Pen
Other teams it has to be an assassination attempt before a pen is awarded

Martial, a clear dive didn't need TV replays to determine that Dean only looked at the monitor to determine the colour of the card

Jesus, a clear pen but PGMOL always have a get out clause which is not hard and fast They use the clear and obvious to cover their agenda

The number of pens the rags have had doesn't add up, the team with the highest number of touches in the opposition pen area would logically have more pens, the rags are not even near the top of the table
