I understand all that, which is an awful situation and really beggars belief considering these are two groups united by their love for the defunct local team, which wasn’t sank by either of them but rather by dodgy and incompetent investors.
What I don’t understand is the position that Bury FC thinks that Bury AFC wants to take over rather than merge. That doesn’t make much sense. What distinction are BFC making that results in that conclusion? Either it’s a completely empty platitude designed to stoke the already hot flames, or if it isn’t, then it must be in some way related to the planned corporate structure right?
As for the gripe with there being an overlap, there does tend to be an overlap in these situations, but the club was already dormant by then which actually means AFC waited longer than most phoenix clubs before forming.
AFC should never been seen as a threat, that damage was already done. If a new club at level 10 of the pyramid is a threat to your league one side, you’ve got a huge problem, and it’s not with the new club. That’s seven divisions between the two.
