Bury don't deserve a football team because the people of Bury didn't/don't care enough to turn up and watch them

I have a lot of good friends who are Bury fans and they all voted no to the merger, its like civil war at the moment, i know people from both sides have been assaulted over this, its very sad but i can see both sides, i think the main upset stems from abandoning the original club far to early and not helping to get Gigg Lane back, its become far too bitter now, not sure how this will be resolved
I think it was less about abandoning the original club, which was gone in everything but name, but more about they wanted a club to support so decided to give it a go with a phoenix team. If they hadn't used the word Bury and played in Burys colours it might have calmed it a bit but I can see them becoming tenants at Gigg Lane unless these shadowy benefactors appear to shore things up

It looks very much to me that it's a case of all or nothing and now there will be nothing. What amazed me that was Bury Council, which has faced millions of cuts every year for a good 20 years, had 450k to give to such a project. Effectively the fans have said 'no thank you.'
only 200 of the fans said no. All about their egos

What it boils down to is that a historic club, the first in Greater Manchester to win a major trophy, has gone down the toilet and is likely to remain there because of a split in what (when all is said and done) is a relatively small fan base that cannot afford to be split.

Such a sad state of affairs when it is the town that suffers overall.
I have had a few good days out going to Gigg Lane.
I know its not quite the same as BFC/BAFC are talking about merging, but I would liken it abit to the local situation over here where Institute finally agreed to ground share with Derry City. For years you wouldnt have had fans from either side consider that. Espeically Institute fans happily spending time in the Brandywell/Bogside.
So if they can co-exist and start to prosper you would hope that a feeling of abandonment would take a back seat to a better future for both (one)

I get what you are saying but i also get the need to fight for your club and hope for a miracle until the very end and not just fucking off to another club, its a tough one and im not sure where this leaves them

As over 90% of AFC voted for the merger it's also possible that some of there members were interested in the club surviving, they just took another route to have a team ready to return. I've been getting a load of stuff from the Gigg group and they were very bullish about having local benefactors to replace the monies lost from the Council (450k) and what AFC would bring with them (£250k) They kept saying that they didn't believe the Government would ask for the £1M from the Community Fund but who knows. They reported that they had support from the FA for the creation of a team but didn't say whether they'd get an automatic place in the bottom tier or if they'd have a team/available for next season. Interesting times for them

That's not a fair statement. Attendances were pretty much in line / proportion with the population.

population 193,800 and got around 3.000 on good days
plus i can bet most of the crowd bury got was a cross-over city and united fans as well

I don’t agree with that mate. A Town in the same conurbation with better supported clubs in City United Wigan Bolton Oldham and Stockport, Bury were still getting these attendances in their last five years:
7,784
7,159
8,007
6,470
8,396

Proper supporters who deserve a proper club (unless they’re daft enough to vote for possibly never having one again)!

If Bury were a town in the middle of nowhere I’d agree with you, but they’re in the same conurbation as City and United. ¾ of the town will be City or United fans.

There are places like Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich in Bury that are as close to Manchester City centre, Old Trafford and the Etihad as where I live in Wythenshawe and Wythy’s in the Manchester borough.

The Neville's should have bought Bury with all the links, but they knew it's not a football town any more and the people of bury don't care one way or the other,

Living in Bury as I do, I get the impression that a fair proportion of the citizens are pig-headed, cut-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face types. I suspect this is not uncommon in places with a small-town mentality. Not everyone in Bury is like that, obviously, but a fair few are. Bury MBC is actually an amalgam of six small towns. Each with its own special group of backwoodspersons.

Too many people want to live in the past, a golden age that never really existed except in their imagination.
I have to agree. They love a bit of 'them and us' nonsense.
