Bus Crash in Eccles

Generally it’s being viewed as a success but it’s still very early days. I agree buses should be big enough to fit all the kids in seats though. Andy Burnham appears on Radio Manchester every week (Mike Sweeney’s show), so you can send your issue directly to him and hear his response.
No thanks, I don't like people lying to me and answering questions with a question.

If you zoom in, there are chains right across the road. But on the side you need them, they are wrapped around the stantion and not dangling down. Presumably the last bus to hit it about six months ago from memory, did that. Or one of numerous previous buses and lorries to hit it and they didn’t get round to untangling them.

Sorry this was supposed to be a reply to the person who posted the photo off google maps a few posts back.
Thank you for that. Somebody is definitely not doing their job right if they allowed the chains to get wrapped around the cross beam and just left them there.

I don’t understand why when he heard and felt the initial hit, why he didn’t slam his brakes on. He just carried on.

I've seen a video of some bellend in the car behind filming the aftermath for social media likes instead of perhaps using his phone to call an ambulance or getting out of the car to help people. Thick c*nt.

These accidents seem to be scarily common. Every year or so there’s a story of some fuckwitted bus driver going the wrong way and slamming into a bridge. Been happening as long as I can remember.

I’ve only seen a short clip. Just watched another longer one. At the end a child in red comes running up to the bus from the bridge screaming for her mum. Assuming the child got knocked off the top and is in distress to make sure her mum is ok, that is some miracle.

A UK double-decker bus is typically between 4.4 and 4.6 meters (approximately 14.4 to 15 feet) tall, according to Wrightbus.

I think the Bee Network use these now according to Google, when I did it they were around 13ft 11" and these new ones seem similar. There are a lot of bridges around 13 12 to 14 foot around so it makes sense.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV electric double-decker bus has a height of 13 feet 9 inches (4.2 meters) or 14 feet 1 inch (4.3 meters), depending on the specific model. The height is measured from the ground to the highest point of the vehicle.

Either way bridge hits are more common than what you would think. Usually caused by drivers being off route, coming back empty a different way than normal or forgetting they're in a double decker rather than a single .

And no I didn't hit a bridge when I was doing it :-)

Looking back through Google Maps’ history of the approach to the bridge. There should be a warning yellow bar on chains that a double decker bus would hit on approach to the bridge. At various times when Google have updated, it’s been missing and then replaced. But it doesn’t look like it’s been in place since January 2021. Four and a half years ago. That’s poor when you know there’s been numerous incidents since then.
