bus lane fine - Help

I know a chap who pulled into a Bus Lane on Hyde Rd to let a ambulance pass with Blue lights on and received a fine in the post a fortnight later!

Not really surprising as I'd assume it is an automated process. I assume the chap contested it on the basis of the above and fine was cancelled?

£30 is about 4hrs take home pay of someone earning a smidge over minimum wage.

Do you really want the hassle of contesting it, phonecalls, letters, possible court appearance (I don't care enough to check out all the particulars of the process, apologies if court attendance is bollocks) for the sake of £30?

Last year my Mrs received a speeding fine ticket.
The picture showed a Volkswagen Golf, my Mrs drove a Shogun at the time.
The camera had read an 8 for a 6.
I deliberately held on to the letter long enough so that they couldn’t re send it to the correct vehicle within the statutory time limit, saving some poor sod from getting points for going slightly over the speed limit on an empty dual carriageway.

How do you prove an ambulance was passing ? The camera is only set for the bus lane (usually)
Similarly, if you are stopped at a red traffic light and cross the white line to allow an ambulance passed, you get done.

Correct. You do not generally, make a manouver that contravenes the highway code because an emergency vehicle is making progress through traffic.
I think you are supposed to make room if appropriate to do so, whilst indicating the intention. You don't swerve into a bus lane, or go through a red light, you let the emergency vehicle driver make his decisions that he's trained for.
