I was guessing it was a piss take but i didn't get the joke.

Is it from a commercial on tele or something ?

the ex-police car market from auctions has been pretty well stitched up by a handful of specialist dealers. If you buy one off one of them, walk away if it does not have a 3 month warranty. Seats and suspension can be shot, brakes and steering will be at least legal, and when you have finished with it ,they can be hard to sell.

I don't agree that ex-police cars have been thrashed. Yes, they might put their foot down a bit when answering a call, but they don't drive around crashing through boxes and pulling handbrake turns like Starsky and Hutch. They are generally well maintained. I know a few people who have had ex-squad cars and none have had a problem.

Hmm well this is one of the cars I've been looking at, what do you think ?

It doesn't look bad. I'm guessing it has been used as a support vehicle rather than a squad car if it is all motorway mileage. The mileage is high, but I would not be put off if it has mostly been cruising. Think how long you will keep it, how many miles you'll put on it and the cost of similar vehicles. Also, would you plan to sell it on at some point or run it into the ground?

-- Fri Mar 28, 2014 3:47 pm --

Look at the bit Pelly Greeny highlighted. The word is 'specifically' not 'pacifically'. Pacific = Ocean Finance - geddit?

I bought a couple of ex traffic police cars years ago, Cavalier turbo's. High mileage as you would expect but mechanically sound. Don't expect built in sound systems or any extras though as everything is ripped out to accommodate the police spec leaving holes everywhere.

Expect to be pulled over by the police a lot though as they recognise the registration plates and for some reason believe the car is wanted or been involved in crime. It's only when you explain to them it was an ex GMP car they click on and realise why they knew the registration plate.

I bought mine from a bloke in Hyde all he dealt with was ex police motors I don't know if he is still about.

I didn't think about that, thanks for posting it.

Yeah, could be awkward if you're into spliffs and fingering brasses whilst driving.

I know a guy who buys ex police cars and they are always bolloxed and need loads spending on them all the time. Frig knows why he keeps buying them but they cost him a fortune in repairs

My advice would be to forget about it

Indeed,i bought one off the south yorkshire police, and unfortunately they had shredded all the paper work..
