Can we get one thing straight?

How does passing back change anything? The frustration is because there is no movement for a forward pass. So when the ball goes backwards, the opposition do nothing we pass it forwards to where it was to start with, we've wasted 30 seconds got no further forward and the opposition have had more time to sort themselves. Hooding it is not required. Pace it.

Next match count the number of times we get a ball in their half, pass it back 2 or 3 levels only for the ball to come back to where it started but us being under even more pressure with less space.

Backwards isn't the issue, pace and movement are

Passing backwards cannot be avoided!!

Heaps of moaning today when ever a City player dare pass it backwards to the centre backs or when one of them knocks it sideways to the other. It can't be avoided! If there's nothing on going forward then you have to go back, switch the play and start again.

That's not being negative, every single team does that.

But we outdo every other team that sets foot on the pitch at ComS. We do it ad nauseam. It is the backbone of the team - the backwards, sidewards pass. It is standard. I swear to God it must be practised at Carrington. IF THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION AND YOU ARE UNDER PRESSURE, YES, BACKWARDS AND SIDEWARDS but it is the hors d'oeuvre, main course, dessert, cheese board and the espresso coffee. Why doesn't somebody move and make a forward option? This season we have had free kicks almost getting into the final quarter and two kicks later it's a fuckin' backpass to our keeper.

I'm no manager but i've yet to see a team win anything by passing sideways and backwards as much as we do. If you are playing against a team with many players behind the ball your players have to find space to recieve the ball yet ours are static offering little movement as Mancini has them stuck in certain positions sticking to a rigid formula [that isn't working].The thing I noticed about the scum on wednesday is even though they are a poor side, their players were excellent at finding space which gave their players in posession options. Mancini as I said won't allow ours to do that, they are terrified of using their own minds to find space for fear of being out of their fixed positions.

99% of the time today it was unavoidable due to the numbers they had behind the ball. The one thing we can do is get it out wide quicker and play at a faster tempo from earlier in the game.

Mind telling our clueless manager that? It's been like that most of the season but it's obviously lost on him.

Write to:

R. Mancini,
Manchester City Football Club,
Manchester.

Thanks a lot.

You dont think the manager and coaching staff know that? They work on one and two touch passing and football all the time

We were off the pace in the 1st half due to the Derby, and in the 2nd we were too frenetic if anything

Absolutely but quite simply we do so because we are slow slow moving the ball from back to front - the opposing team have time to set up against up put me behind the ball and close down space - press the man with the ball and the result is obvious a pass backwards

Speed up play get midfield breaking and maybe jusy maybe things would get better

They don't seem to on the evidence of how the team plays.

They work on one and two touch passing and football all the time

And?

LOL. What's the excuse for all the other games this season?

Kindly name all the games where we have played to a high tempo and attacked with pace and power for a good proportion of the match.

Name me just 3 games.

Go on.

You won't be able to do it.
