Can we retain the title?

As things are, we've stood completely still like the Arsenal Invincibles and Blackburn did. Neither won the league in the following season. If Marwood can get off his arse and bring in a couple of the players Mancini wants then our chances improve.

It´s not looking good and the CL will be even tougher without top class reinforcements. The last thing we need is to drop out of the top 4. It´s mystifying but I´ll roll with it till the deadline and trust our owners and Bob to get it right once again.
Four years ago the idea of ever winning the PL was less than a pipedream so as far as that´s concerned I´m happy.

Add Agger and a genuinely top class CM, yes. Don't, and no. The reason why United have always won the league the season after they finish second is usually the team who finished first spends all summer long patting each other on the back and over estimating their strength. The teams who win consecutive titles don't.

If we're lucky with injuries and a mystery cancellation of the African Cup of Nations, yeah.

But seriously, there's no reason that the current squad can't retain the title. We have a team of talented (in a few key places, absolute World Class [Hart, Kompany, Yaya, Silva, Aguero) players who have now been playing together for a while, we have the best strike force in the league (and I'd argue in Europe, except for Barca) and a manager who knows how to retain a title.

But we'll have a much better chance if we bring in 2 or 3 players for the parts of the team that we do lack in. We need a 3rd experienced CB and a deep lying playmaker. We could also do with a dedicated winger.

We can win it again, but certain factors come into play, like injuries and suspensions,a few games without say kompany and yaya could be problematic....

It's going to be difficult, especially if we lose Kompany and Yaya at the same time, as we did for a short spell last year.
The team will evolve and if Mancini persists with three at the back, it will help Kolarov in particular. Razak might feature, especially if Barry continues to struggle with injury.
Chelsea have made a few interesting signings, but Edin Hazard might be a tad lightweight for the Premier League and Marko Marin is similar to Adam Johnson.
Arsenal will suffer without RVP and Liverpool will lack penetration despite signing the impressive Joe Allen. Tottenham will do better than most people think because AVB has more tactical nous than the overrated Chirpy Cockney.
That leaves City and United locking horns and both teams will probably make a couple of major signings before the transfer window closes.
My biggest concern is the lack of a lethal strike partnership as Balotelli and Tevez both play better as lone strikers.
There is also the distraction of the Champions League as progress in the competition might affect our domestic form.
