Can We Use A 3 Man Midfield?

I agree with an earlier post in the thread that the 3 man midfield (or need for a detroyer) is already becoming a thing of the past for the top teams.

Bayern, Dortmund, Real, Juventus and to a lesser extent even JM's Chelsea now appear to implement a more fluid 442 system (sometimes resembling a 4231 depending on personel).

We're no longer playing catch up. We are now at the top table and we need to constantly evolve. 451/433 is now being implemented by teams like Liverpool, Everton, Swansea, Southampton etc.

We may still see 451/433 formation for us at times this season, but I'd wager it will only be seen away from home against the best clubs while we are still getting used to the new formation/tactics.

I've mentioned it before, but we really need to purchase a better DM than the ones available on the bench. Rodwell, Garcia & Milner aren't good enough.

It's not that simple sadly, who makes the 3rd man in midfield.

There's been no indication that MP sees Milner as a possible CM so that leaves Garcia and Rodwell.

The alternative is to switch out one of the strikers for Silva/Jovetic who play deeper naturally which probably makes the most sense. That leaves Aguero/Negredo fighting for one spot and Dzeko eternally unhappy (again)

Our best European performance (4-0 Porto) we played 451.

Aguero lone striker...midfield three.

Fern-Yaya
---Nasri

Fern-Garcia
---Yaya

Either would do the job.

Said at the the end of the summer that having just Yaya and Fern' in the defensive midfield role against the top teams will leave us getting dicked in the match.

We should have replaced Barry with another top midfielder. Alternatively start with Milner also.

Too many attacking players to play 3 in the middle. We'd have to play with one striker, or play the likes of Aguero wider and out of position to fit people in. I think we should play with 3 in the middle cause our midfield two get taken out of the game with a few passes round them, but I don't see it unfortunately. Maybe away from home to the tougher teams, but not on a frequent basis

We should be playing with 5 midfielders and 1 striker. Having 4 strikers makes that a problem.

Like I have said time and time over for 4 years. Our biggest problem is the the idiotic idea that we need 4 strikers! Which forces us to play 2 up top.

Bayern has 2: Manduric, Pizzaro
Barca has 1: Messi
Real has 2: Benzema, Morata
Dortmund has 1: Lewandoski

Sure they have wingers who can play forward on a gif. But we have 4. A waste if you ask me. It just makes football harder playing with 2 strikers. You are not going for it when you start with 2 strikers, you are botching your chances.

We need to sell, Dzeko and Guidetti. Convert Jovo into a fulltime midfielder who can sometimes deputize at striker if need be. Then don't buy any more striker, but class midfielders instead.

Our 2 main problems are too many forwards and not enough players who can take on a defender on full speed. Navas can run, but he is not like a Robben, Ribery, Ronaldo, Neymar, Pedro, Ben Arfa, Hazard e,t,c type player. But he is still a step in the right direction, as he often gets doubled. This must continue. But even if we don't go that route, we must get rid of this four striker malaise. Its been killing us for years.

We could and should but its clear we wont use 3 man midfield. That would live only 3 positions for wing/attacking positions and the players would be wainting for those 3 places are Silva, Nasri, Milner, Jovetic, Negredo, Agüero, Dzeko. Leaving 4 of them on the bench wont happen, the squad way too strong on the attacking front, having 4 strikers like we have is madness if we want to play with 3 midfielders.

We should have bought two more midfielder instead of Jovetic then and then build the tactics with a midfield trio.

Basically right now we would be fucked if Fernandinho or Yaya gets a 2-3 moth injury which could happen anytime. Who comes in for them? Garcia? Not good enough? Rodwell doesnt do anywhere as much as Ferna or Yaya, Milner is never played in midfield...

Btw sorry to see Jovetic being benched so much, dont know when he will play more frequently and instead of who but he is a very creative player and certainly didnt leave Fiorentina to watch matches from the bench he is potentially world class and is someone the team maybe should build around or around him as well so far he seem s a singing we did because we coiuld not because we really had plans for him. Really hope next few weeks he is starting to get into the team and his next start wont be the League Cup only...

Fernandiho was fantastic at Sahtar in a midfield trio. We signed him to play him in a duo lot deeper than he was at Sahtar. Its not a logical move not for 30m.

Its little bit like if we would have singed Bale at play him leftback. He would be good there probably. Like Fernandinho behind Yaya (when we dont face a 3man midfield or some serious team.)

Or little bit like MU and Kagawa he was fantastic for a role in Dortmund, but MU dont have that particular tactics and roles and now he plays from the left or sometimes the right what is not his best position.

I dot know what was the clear conception behind Fernandinho signing. To get a little faster "Barry". Thats good but we had more problems in the midfield other than just pace. And to have some freedom for Yaya Fernandinho's creative strenghts are wasted big time. Well Barry hardly had creative skills but you cant use them as the deeper guy in a midfield duo in that Yaya serioulsy struggles to run back when he needs to...

Another reason why getting rid of Barry was so stupid. Fernandinho with Barry and Yaya behind the striker would have been a better option in Europe.

Instead we really have no options-Garcia can't play football, Rodwell is always injured and Milner lacks class and any pace.
