Based on that logic, why don't we have separate supporters groups for every collection of people who feel themselves to be discriminated against?

The onus definitely is on people to integrate. We all come together to support City. Leave your prejudices, sensitivities, proclivities and politics at the door. Can I ask, did you join in or laugh when the chant ''who's the bender in the pink?'' (or whatever the chant was when David James wore a pink shirt) - if so, then you are acknowledging sexual orientation (and in a negative way) at a game.
In the same way that Brighton fans get a right load of chants aimed at them about them all being gay because they happen to live in a town with a large gay community. Now imagine that you are a gay fan and hear that crap every other week. And that is one of the reasons why this group is forming. Plus, they may wish to pull with a like minded Blue - how many ''straight males'' have been to a supporters meeting, met a female Blue and tried to kop off?

As stated, mate, I do not care what sexual orientation, race or political position someone holds outside of supporting City when I'm supporting City. I think it should all be left outside. IMO these kinds of supporters clubs bring their own agenda of discrimination in with them and it's neither needed nor necessary.

I was thinking of forming a "Bourgeois City Supporters Group" and thought you were a natural choice to invite to join. We need as much support as we can get tbh.

I personally think that real integration, where we dont need separate groups for those who suffer discrimination, would be ideal. But the onus is definitely not on the LGBT community to integrate, and just accept the prejudice that they experience. Once all the discrimination stops then none of this will be necesarry, just like its not necesarry to have a straight supporters group.

Probably as much as some gay supporters laughed at the fat bloke from Newcastle when the chips sold out or the get your tits out for the lads.

How exactly do you think forming a separate group will address these issues. Like I day setting a group apart from the mainstream invites discrimination. Surely it's better to remain part of the fold and fight from the inside as opposed to attacking it from the outside?

The OP started a thread making Blues aware of a new supporters club and it's turned into something it really didn't need to. Stop wittering on about who should leave what at the door (the door to what?!) or whether adding LGBT to name is required or why a particular supporters group like this one is really needed.

It's been created and let that be the end of it. If you want to join, great and if you don't, no problem.

I don't think they are attacking anything, just forming a group for likeminded fans to meet up and socialise.

There's been a disabled supporters club for years and no-one's taken offence at that. They meet up because they share a common bond and as well as talking about City they can discuss issues that they all have in common.

I'm sure if there was an Armed Forces supporters club, no-one would have a problem with that either?

I've got a few gay mates who just like going out in the village. They'll go elsewhere in town, but just prefer the village because that's where a lot of their mates drink. You want to meet your mates, you go where most of them will be congregating.

There's probably a lot of LGBT City fans who may fancy meeting up with other blues in the village before a game, or every so often to have a chat and belong to their own group (which basically is the point of supporters clubs, having your own group of mates under a particular branch name) which they can call their own.

LGBT is often regarded as a minority and just like any race minority the way of gaining equality without prejudice/discrimination within society is not by advertising yourselves different from anyone else (I'm speaking generally not just about this). I really can't understand this, it's very contradictory to the intentions of being treated equally/socially accepted (which it is now but like racism might take a generation before the majority of discrimination falls by the way side)!

I disagree. Although I'm not Homosexual and won't be joining this Group, actually having this group out there is a benefit and will help LGBT Blues, giving them a destination to meet likeminded people and bringing about some form of support network.

I help operate a local supporters club and although we as a branch are LGBT friendly, I can imagine some blues joining other branches and possibly experiencing conflict/issues whatever if they were openly gay, whereas with the Canal Street Blues it becomes obvious about where they could go and be welcomed.

Once the group is fully functional and has members, it is then up to Canal Street Blues to engage with other Branches and this is where the possibility of going to other branch meetings, away trips and whatever else and integrating with everyday people occurs.

I don't see why people are questioning the supporter's club based on sexuality. Who gives a fook? If it allows supporters to feel like they are part of the club with others, then it's progress and progress only happens a step at a time.

If you're talking about 'integration' then

a) have supporter's groups do social events together(as they do already) and

b) Stop shouting derogatory abuse of sexual orientation to opposition players and fans.


This is will result in the 'integration' people are looking for, imo.
