Capital One Cup Final - post match thread

Excellent. They still can't have the Falklands, though.

Great last Tango from Willy. The ultimate footballing redemption.

All the argies seem amazing lads. Seems mad we had a war with them 30 years ago. Should have had a pint.

That last sentence is so Mills and Boon ;-)

LOL...It didn't end there....the immediate reply was...

"dont think you could be anymore bitter if you tried"

In reply the original poster came back with.....

"Bitter?

Not one tiny bit.

Alive to, angry at and utterly opposed to the obscenity that is a Chelsea, a Manchester City or a Paris St Germain - clubs that have in relatively recent times shat all over the principles of the reasonable level playing field/organic type growth that to varying degrees have always reigned in football?

You bet. 100%"

But he didn't have it all his own way, in reply....

"Jeez, all this argument about City and their petro-dollars etc.

It's a fact of football now. Even the Anfield Wrap boys in the pre-match Thursday or Friday podcast were understanding of the constant criticism of City because they have money. A £50 million pound player can still get injured, can suffer poor form and you can only play 11 players at one time.

Would this argument have been raging today if we'd have done 'em on the Pens? I don't think so.
Their goalkeeper played better than ours, their tactics were far better than they were when they played us at Anfield and the Yetihad. They learned their lesson from those defeats.

We fought them till the end and lost on a lottery. Shit happens, but stop blaming the money ... who are we, fucking Exeter?"

But of course, like all fools, they have to have the last word....

"You honestly think the likes of myself, Ale and Twelfth Man are that fucking shallow to allow a single, albeit high stake, defeat by such an obscene entity to dictate how we feel about such things.

If so, you know absolutely nothing about the game nor the likes of us who constituted the lifeblood of the game for all the years prior to it becoming the fashionable entity it is today. Twelfth Man told you in his post that the obscenity of the likes of City has squeezed him out of the game he grew up loving. You think that sort of heartbreaking hiatus is a fucking whim because of one fucking defeat to one of those obscenities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck me. Unbelievable."

I don't know if it's the wembley acoustics, but I thought we were brilliant in backing the team yesterday. Barely heard from Liverpool for long passages of the game. And the turning point on the shoot-out was Navas stepping-up, slotting his home and then firing-up the fans. The Liverpool players as they approached our end will have felt that. So nice to have a bit of good fortune for a change in terms of which end they were taken!
