Captain for next season | Bernardo confirmed (pg11)

Captain usually = mainstay in the team. Playing hot potato with the armband all the time is stupid. So should be Rodri.
1st name on the teamsheet. Best player in the world in his position, is very vocal, is great example of how to carry yourself on and off the pitch and is essential to Pep ball.

Not sure how Bernie has essentially jumped the queue. From not even in the "leadership group" to straight up captain. I know hes teachers pet but he gets bullied by most the squad in training lol. Its not a bad choice, it's just a weird one

Was this penalty decision not just as simple as Haaland missing 3 or 4 of his last 7, and Marmoushy scoring all of his last 7? Literally just putting ego to one side and going with the most likely scorer...

Never seen Haaland shirk any responsibility in his time here so I don't know why a penalty against Palace in the Cup Final would be the time to start

You also get a good view of the pitch and what's going on when you stand stationary at the back post.:-)

"1st name on the team sheet"? Hmmm perhaps Lewis didn't want it.

So he's picked a captain that won't be playing every week? Whats the point in that?

His personality of a fighter is irrelevant to a rebuild if his commitment levels are "I'm off for free in the summer lads".

It should have been Haaland

No one should be playing every week in fairness, you must be having a laugh with Haaland, for one strikers don't tend to make good captains. He hardly bust a gut last season. He needs to concentrate on improving his game.
It was one of three for me Rodri Silva or Dias. Silva has earnt it and has been here the longest.

I’d have picked Rodri but can’t argue with Bernardo.

Those of you clamouring for Haaland to be captain have lost your tiny minds.

He’s a brilliant goal scorer but not a captain.
Pep made a brilliant point about this is the press conference. It’s about him learning the responsibility. I think it’s a great move. We know he’s here to stay and the club have clearly given him the keys to the club.

I haven't seen that, will give it a watch now.

I struggle with Pep's press conferences tbh...too much grumpy mumblings most of the time!

Pep sounds like he was fuming with the Walker choice
Sentiment in the way of winning that decision. But Pep did the same by extending him after the treble season. This is why last season is so important for me as we needed a reset, you don’t reset when you keep winning and the last league we won we weren’t at our best.

Im surprised it’s not Dias as captain but was always going to be the 4 in the leadership group and Gundo if he stays, the fact he’s not named in the group but pep mentioned him the second time talking about it in the press conference shows he’s off for me but hugely important whilst still here.

Bernie has rejected offers to stay at city, if he has a good year could easily re sign. He’s a club legend and deserves to be treated like one.

I’m proud for him, he deserves it.

I have to say, I don’t mind it. Sometimes being a captain off the pitch is as important as being a captain on it, and I think Bernie is one of the few players that really “gets” the fans.

You can tell he fucking hates the Scousers as much as I do, and that’s good enough for me. He’s a model pro and you can tell that the mentality of some of the team irked him last season. He’s a winner.

Giving the captaincy to someone who freely admits he's running down his contract to walk on a free at the end of this season doesn't seem the greatest idea.

I still think Pep walks at the end of this year
Has Bernardo stated that he’s running down his contract?
