Do we really think it was the players that 'chose' Walker? Somehow I doubt it, despite what Pep says.

It it IS true, remember all those photos of that embrace when Pep convinced him to stay, everyone claiming (or echoing sam lee) that he promised him the captaincy to convince him.

Not a chance Pep gave him the captaincy to stay, not having it.

He was a very vocal part of the team for a while, it's not that surprising he would have had a lot of votes from fellow players.

The squad is full of natural leaders and voices, they aren't all sat there whilst Walker does his rousing speech like a bunch of robots.

The armband is just a visual thing, means you have to shake hands and be in photos. Dias and Rodri have all shown plenty of evidence ofvoicing things when required, be no different to having the armband or not.

Yea I wasn't claiming Pep gave him the armband to stay. I argued the opposite at the time. I was pointing out they can't both be true.

I am not sure the Players' choice is as autonomous as Pep suggests though.
 
Nice win for our Captain (s)
The little cameo of Bernie’s captain mentality was seen on the pitch when playing and after he was substituted when he was pushing the players on from the sidelines, evident after Cherki’s goal and he was gesturing to get things going quickly and pointing at his wrist to show there wasn’t much time left.
I’m not undermining Walkers achievements with us but Bernie is a definite upgrade on and off the pitch.
 
I originally went for Rodri and Bernardo 3rd, but happy with the choice. Experienced big game player who gives his all for the team and holds high standards. I think there's also benefit in keeping in line with a hierarchy of experience/time spent at the club.
 
Gundo is like another unofficial captain within the squad. A few leaders in there this season - hopefully a recipe for success not having certain players/ex-captains within the squad and new coaches.

 
Great performances by all our Captain(s) last night.
Bernardo growing more and more into the role.
Hearing him saying ‘Being named captain is one of my biggest honours’ speaks volumes about what our club means to him.
A real captain that loves our club, articulate in interviews, Pep has played a blinder with his selections.

I have it on good authority Bernardo's been having one-on-one sessions with Andy Morrison to get into the spirit of things........ ;-)
 
If this is the trigger to get our Bernardo back and re focus him and stop him going round in circles then I'm all for it .
Felt really bad criticising him last season but he was awful ,picked up a bit at the end tho .
Hopefully welcome back Bernardo.

All page numbers on the site were halved. Ric adjusted the page criteria to give more content per page. Just divide the page numbers in the heading by 2, hence pages 6 and 11 ;-)
 
Bernardo is playing like he used to giving him the captaincy has lit the fire in his belly and he loves it.
 
We need someone who can grab the team n game by the bollocks. Currently we have Dias n Bernardo.....sorry but they're not captain material to lead the team n dish out the bollockings. Go back a few years, Vinny, Fernandinho, Pearce.

It feels like we're rudderless in stormy seas....Rodri has to be the best bet surely if fit ?

Bernardo, Dias Rodry and Erling are the captains Think we make too much of the captain’s role
The issue for me is we have too many nice players no bastards anymore we don’t get into the refs face enough and accept things far too easy
 
We also need someone that’s going to be at the club for a long time more than likely Bernardo will go in the summer walker lasted 18 months Gundo 1 season Fernandinho 2 seasons silva 1 season
 
I think we need a bastard in our team. Someone like de Jong or Ferna who’ll stand up for his teammates and have a go at someone. I don’t think we have that in the squad right now apart from maybe Ruben or Bernardo (I can however see Gonzalez growing into it).

Only the Captain is allowed to approach the referee and should do so in a respectful manner according to new guidelines for this season. Think they tried this once before but had to stop as they would've had to book to many rags and dippers.
