In 1999 his eldest son and stepson were arrested in Yemen and charged with being involved in a bomb plot. His son got 3 years in jail and his stepson 7 years.

In 2009 two of his sons and his stepson were jailed for their involvement in a long running car fraud racket.

In 2010 another son was sentenced to 12 months youth detention for violent disorder.

In 2012 yet another son was jailed for his part in an armed robbery on a jewellers and illegal possession of a firearm with intent to commit an offence.
