Don't we have a poor record in games immediately following European ties? I would be delighted with a hard fought 1-0 victory and no injuries, but I fear the worst.

Well I think this is a fairly well trodden argument which can be had across four different threads in here. I like Gundogan and I'd play him on Saturday, in a different starting 11 from the one midweek. It's obviously not that ridiculous an opinion to hold as the manager seems to like him too.

What do you like about him, mate? As in what attributes do you think he brings to the team?

I was watching back that assault on Leroy and Diaz, both of those were straight red cards.
IF, more likely when they happen today, the ref needs to have the balls to deal with it quickly and harshly. That could easily have been a career ending assault on Leroy.[emoji35]

I just wish that Colin is given the teeniest weeniest masterclass in how football should be played, and he doesn't give it any of the 'English football is a man's game' schtick', and we garner three points without half our team ending up in plaster casts till Christmas!

I take it you’re not a fan either, mate?

I don’t mind him filling in for Fernandinho every now and again. But he should never fill in for De Bruyne or Silva, ever again.
That's a little confusing, no way is Gundogan a active midfielder like Fernandinho, not a physical player by any means. On his day a classy footballer, sadly he's far too slow who hasn't the tempo for the premiership, a luxury player.

Just think he's a really lovely footballer and I've always gotten the sense that that some of our more gifted players like Silva and KDB enjoy playing with him.

Sometimes when I've watched him in that deeper role I've noticed the way the ball gets tapped around whilst we wait for our opening and everyone around is always looking to give it back to him until he sees the opportunity to bring Silva or KDB into the game to set things going. I really it enjoy when we're playing like that. He also chips in with the odd important goal. That second one against United last season was a beauty and it still pains me that it ended being an irrelevance.

On a more superficial level I just think he comes across as a really great guy, he seems to be a good steady influence on Sané off the pitch and I think he's a fighter. I appreciate you can't just want someone around purely because they're a nice guy but I think he's definitely a positive influence in a squad that has clearly benefited from its togetherness
