I recall the first time I saw him playing for Argentina as a young lad, and I said to my son what a player he's going to be. He had everything - enthusiasm, power, strength, skill, never-give-up attitude, eye for goal.
I also said that I'd love to see him in a City Shirt, but at that time we could never afford him.

As it turned out we could, and did. What a player he was for us !! I forgive him for being such a nobhead when he fell out with Bobby Manc. As it turned out he was instrumental in us winning our first PL.

I remember Ian Holloway saying he practiced a long lost football art, by saying he was the best ‘shielder’ of the ball in the World.

Awesome tenacious and hugely driven World Class player who kick started us into what we became today.

Remember feeling utterly shell shocked when he signed, properly surreal and exciting in equal measure.

I loved telling my United mates he snubbed their offer to sign a permanent deal, really pissed them off. Couldn’t get their head round it. Dicks

Still in my top 3 City players ever. What it meant when we signed him was everything changed. Aggressive, passionate, lethal, a leader from the front, world class and his RIP Fergie sign at the trophy parade is nothing short of legendary. Truly once in a lifetime signing, happy retirement Carlitos.

I can recommend the series on Tevez called “Apache: The Life of Carlos Tevez”. Here in the States it’s available on Netflix with eight episodes. It gives real insight into his upbringing and the shit he had to deal with.

My old man tells me about how Jimmy Greaves had an unerring, natural ability to always hit the corners of the goal when he finished. Tevez was the same.

One of the best players I’ve ever seen live - and I’ve been going to City for 20 years and seen the lot in the Champions League in that time.

He gets a lot of criticism from some quarters for being a bit of a mercenary but when you see the abject poverty he came from, something hard to fathom in this country, it is difficult to judge him for his choices. Probably supported his entire extended family over the years
