Carol Thatcher and the racist remark

Why are people sticking up for Carol Thatcher?
She made racist remark about a tennis player looking like a "gollywog", not in a private conversation as reported in some papers.
The comment was made in front of a dozen people, she's had plenty of time to apologise for causing offence. She has chosen not to.
I blame the parents.

Rory McGrath made a remark about Gary Lineker having big ears on They Think It's All Over, which was broadcast to millions of people a few years ago. Other big-eared people were bound to be watching.
He's had years to apologise, but has chosen not to.

Big Brother's Coolio used the n-word on the show in front of his other housemates, a word former contestant Emily was KICKED OUT for using. He's had plenty of time to apologise. He has chosen not to.

Big Brother's Darnell used the n-word on the show in front of his other housemates, a word former contestant Emily was KICKED OUT for using. He's had plenty of time to apologise. He has chosen not to.

Millions of people called Sarah Palin a 'red-neck', but not all of them have chosen to apologise.

Frankie Boyle made a joke about the French on Mock the Week, and has chosen not to apologise.

Al Murray made a joke about the Germans on The Pub Landlord, and has chosen not to apologise.

Ricky Gervais featured jokes about a Golliwog on his TV show 'Extras', as well as a joke about Crimewatch featuring a disproportionate amount of black actors.

Give it a rest you fucking twat.

...And I am choosing not to apologise for that.
Why the offensive language?

I don't like Carol Thatcher, but I'll stick up for her here.

You said it was "not in a private conversation" because "the comment was made in front of a dozen people". That's still a private conversation. A private conversation can be between two people or several people. The fact is that she wasn't on air, she wasn't broadcasting to anyone via the radio, tv, on a stage or anything. She was talking amongst a handful of people, in a room. That's a private conversation.

Quote from BBC1 Controller: "What Carol decides to say in the privacy of her own home or in a private conversation with friends is one thing. What she says in a green room space, when there are 12 people, in her capacity as a roving reporter for The One Show is a rather different thing."
I can't agree with you that this was a private conversation, it was on BBC property, under their employment.
I do agree with you about the "nation of grassers" though, all this snitching leaves a very bad smell.

As for BrooklandsBlue's comments a few posts up, I can't be arsed debating racism with a fascist.

Because shaundickov is a tory boy and will somehow find a way to blame Labour for this outburst.

She only got on telly through having an infamous mother anyway. I say good riddance to her.

Despite what the BBC Controller says, I'd still say that was a private conversation. Whether it was at home or at work. It was no different than a canteen at a place of work. Now I think that a conversation had around a table in a canteen at a place of work is still a private conversation.

Unfortunately the BBC are going over the top to make themselves look pure as the snow that's runing my f**king work!

It seems you have no concept of either context or history. Wow.

Which, of course, is the favourite trick of all obsessed 'PC gone mad, guv' pub bores.

If a conversation in the workplace causes offence, the person hearing it has the right to complain about it whether or not it was directed at them. For example if you call a black man a golliwog in my presence and I am offended, I'm entitled to make my feelings known to management. I don't have to be black, female, gay, etc or the actual victim of the comment - it's my perception that counts.

Of course that in itself doesn't make the comment unacceptable, BUT if I complain, I have a right for my complaint to be investigated fully. In this instance, the powers that be decided (rightly in my opinion) that the comment was wholly unacceptable.

1. A man calling another man "big ears" on a comedy show is not racist or even remotely offensive.
2. Black men (Coolio & Darnell) using the word "******" is not racist language. It's an inclusive term, which can only be used by black people, in the same way as only gay people can call each other "queer". I thought that was obvious.
3. Sarah Palin "redneck" - uneducated, unsophisticated white person. Fact.
4. Frankie Boyle, Al Murray - French/German jokes. Surely nobody finds these offensive, we have a history of mutual respect, animosity, unity, competition and wars with these nations. Whilst it is xenophobic, it is not racist.
5. Ricky Gervais playing a character who is racist, does not make him racist in real life. No apologies needed.

Your argument is paper thin, your choice of language is offensive, and you are the only person who should apologise.
Though I doubt you will.

To those complaining about it being a Witch Hunt. Dead fcukin' right!!

She is a fcukin' Witch!
