Carol Thatcher and the racist remark

have people heard about matt le tissier at some awards in london last night.was in todays independent.maybe someone can get the link as i'm shite on computers.anyway he made a gag about how he liked playing at white hart lane because he felt that he did'nt have the biggest nose.no doubt he'll be blamed for the hollocaust and called anti semetic etc etc.i happen to think that it is funny.i think he was just trying to make people laugh.he also slagged hoddle which was equally amusing.i'm sure some sensitive little pussy is going to say what a disgrace he is etc etc

I agree with shaundickov on some parts of what he put;

Emily on big brother used the 'N' word and got booted out.

Darnell and Coolio use it and they remain in the house, people are lenient towards black people using them words as its considered part of their culture.

Wtf one rule for one person and one rule for the other. I know this has fuck all to do with the Carol Thatcher remark but I just thought i'd point something out that i've never quite understood.

Why is saying someone looks like what is essentially a cartoon charcter offensive? If I said my white mate looked like Dennis the Menace would that be offensive.

My gf's grandad says Benjani looks like a gollywog. thats not racist in any way to me, if he was calling all our black players that then maybe, but he just thinks Benjani looks like the cartoon character. Not richards or SWP, just benjani.

The mass stupidity on this particular subject, has to be read, to be believed/ disbelieved!!

Never

If that's your honest answer, that's fair enough. I asked because I've heard many a person claim not to be racist only shout out something in racial terms after an incident on the pitch, but that's because they forget themselves and they don't see it as harmful.

But, it's the connatations of the thought process that's the danger.

My wife's Gran (beautiful soul, she is) has a 'Golly'. She's had it all her life and she's 75. But, she put that thing away once she understood what the 'Golly' was and I have UTMOST respect for her, as she broke with something she felt dear to her. Nobody asked her, she just did it, having gained new friends that were Black.

FFS, if a person not of the race uses a term deemed OFEENSIVE and RACIAL, it has to be deemed as such. If a person of the race that the word is associated with, uses the same word, how can it be deemed offensive as he is demeaning himself as well as others? the others, in this case may well have umbrage with the comment and that person will have to deal with that.

How can you cross the boundaries of racial slurring and find it acceptable? Would you walk into a club in Mosside or in Hackney, etc. and find it ok to be called "Whitey/ honky/ Cracker/ whatever"??

And by the way, note that there are not THAT many slur words for Caucasians!!
