Catastrophic transfers are killing us.

We've made a small but not inconsiderable fortune by developing players that worked their way through our academy and we won the titles 'cos at that age range we were the best in the land, but not everyone is gonna make it and stand out in a PL team. And if we use the word correctly I think Palmer is the standout, and even he couldn't stem the Cottagers' tsunami yesterday!

We most definitely are a selling club where youngsters are concerned, when all the dust settles people might realise that we are now more a business and less a football club.

I know it's sad but that's modern football.

All part 'n parcel of staying at the top. Recruit young, develop them and see if they cn slot seamlessly into the first team. If not, they have had a fantastic grounding they probably wouldn't get in many other places and it commands an appropriate fee.

Isn’t that short term thinking though. Last season he probably wasn’t ready to start regularly, but you could see the potential. Young players aren’t ready made/ instantly ready to play every week.

For me the obvious thing was don’t buy Doku and give Palmer a chance as a winger. Doku isn’t half as good and he cost what 50m?

Pep and the club should be able to spot that talent
Agree completely, and Foden was proof of that. He was floating around the team from 2017 onwards in a very limited capacity for a while. But you also have to factor in the fact that Palmer wanted to go.

The sale of Palmer almost covers the price of Doku, and at the end of it, it's not my money so I don't worry too much about fees.

Doku is still developing himself and he's also a much more natural winger. Plus before his injury last season, Doku was destroying teams out wide.

Palmer never impressed me on the wing and we just had something of a logjam in the middle where he's a better player. I wasn't happy that we sold him, but I understand the move and I'm glad for him that he has excelled the way he has.

Kerfuckinching :)

I'm not here to bash any players but...

Instead of making multiple threads all saying exactly the same thing, can we not roll them all into the one thread called "The needy buggers thread"?
Needy cunts, wums and all of those that joined up now we are shit to be cunts about everyone who plays or works for the club

Also, we all saw Palmer at City. Anyone who says they knew he would have broken out like this for City is full of shit. He was never going to get games at attacking mid.
Post #2056......6th Feb 2022 by me. (Im' crap on tech, and can't paste it)....discussing our EDS in 'transfer forum.

"the only one who looks like he could make it, is Palmer, as was Foden"

.....so no, not everyone is 'full of shit' some were of the opinion that he 'could' become as good as he is proving ;)

Catastrophic is a bit too much of a strong word TBH.

But our transfers ove the least 3 or 4 windows have been very poor.

A proper recruitment policy would have identified players to replace our aging ones and players that we only have one player in that position for (I.e. Rodri and Haaland).

Walker nearly buggered off to Bayern Munich. That should have set alarm bells ringing for a replacement last season, so he could have rotated with Walker this season.

We saw last season when Rodri got suspended how we struggled without him. We identified a replacement (Rice) but couldn't get his signature over the line.

The same for Haaland. Everyone can see he needs a rest now and again, so what do we do. Go and release our second striker and don't even bother bringing in a replacement.

Bringing Gundogan is proving to be one of the worst decisions to be made at the club.

Then we have the disaster of Phillips who the general layman could see from his first few outings in City shirt that he was no where near the level required at City.

Panic buying Nunes who is marginally better than Phillips (which isn't hard).

And now taking gambles on Doku and Savinho who MIGHT come good. But again their performances flatter to decieve.

Grealish was our first 100 million player and he's had 1 decent season.

We haven't had a proper LB since Mendy. We continue to shoe horn players into that position.

The only players that can come out of our recent transfer purchase with any amount of class is Haaland and Gvardiol along with Akanji who is showing vey decent value for the fee paid.

We had the whole English game with our foot on its throat. With proper recruitment we could have secure that status for years and years.

So what if people started calling the Premier league a farmers league!!!

If City won 10 in a row I couldn't give a fuck what other fans think!!!
