Is Cavani really that good?

genuine question as I've hardly seen him play, except against us last year and he looked fantastic then. But then so did Bob Taylor and Jon Macken when playing against us :)

No he isn't but people on here who like to think they know more about foreign football are over-egging the pudding.

Who is better in your opinion?

Falcao over Cavani every time. He would instantly make us favourites to win the league. We lack a really clinical finisher and while Cavani is good I don't think he is as good as some on here make out.

Of course he is good, he is one of Europe's most potent strikers. The only worry for many is his adaptability to our system. You would have to think our scouts and technical team have done more than watch his YouTube goals though. Personally I think he can do it but even if he can't, there are signs we're changing our system to something more mobile and expansive anyway which would be good for any centre forward. Even Van Persie would probably find himself frustrated in our current system, it's not very 'striker friendly' at times.

And people judging him on Uruguay shouldn't... many top players aren't as good for country as club, including Messi and Ronaldo. Aguero has scored 17 in 44 for Argentina compared to 33 in 59 for City too. Cavani has been thrown on the wing for Uruguay many times and expected to support the left-back while Suarez played free striker role and Forlan the #10 role, so no wonder he isn't always in peak form for his country. How would Aguero look as a defensive left-winger?

I would have thought that a hiigher ratio of Aguero's Arg appearances are substitutte appearances when compared to Cavani's Ura appearances. Plus I rememberr Kun being deployed on the wing quite often.

But I didn't know about Cavani being played out of position.

What does impress me about Cavani is his surprising amount of pace, his aerial ability, finishing and workrate, but most of all his movement.
From the Youtube videos I've seen (i'm talking the ones that show all his touches in a game, not just skills and goals) his weaknesses are control/dribbling and linkup play. Still, they are better than Dzeko's.

Falcao isn't particularly great in build up play either, I think people on this forum need to get past the idea we'll have a striker with the playmaking of Ozil or Silva.

Debateable,and besides,they're different in style.

We already have Aguero and Tevez, who are similar.

Besides,it seems Falcao is 'taken'

That leaves very little else for us,maybe Lewandowski? so,for a couple of reasons,he's as good as it gets.

Aguero is better than both, and realistically you don't have 2 players of that quality when you only play 1.

I have to laugh, people were going on about Higuain this week, how great he was etc... they all went quiet after that shite performance v Dortmund.

Re: Cavani & Falcao

Throwing this in here cause its relevant:

Leandro Damiao in advanced talks with Napoli, which at the moment is definitely ahead of Tottenham to sign him

via the always reliable @tancredipalmeri

Starting to think that we could have cavani deal done very early with Napoli already having a replacement and us already agreed to terms. A note on damaio, he'll be sold for double what Napoli are paying in 2-3 years he's gonna be very good

What really worries me is Madrid coming in for Aguero if Falcao and Cavani beome unavailable to them, I can just seem them coming in all guns blazing leaking all sorts of stuff.

Cue the Marca Aguero campaign for Kun come June....

Hope they go for Lewandowski so they can stay away.

Very good article on Cavani in April's edition of World Soccer magazine.

100%, two footed, can head, tracks back. Maybe not cultured but who cares - he's topped the Italian scoring charts for two years I think.

Also a devout Christian so no risk of Balo/Tevez nonsense.

If he signs and we get out system right (maybe a winger too), he should score min 20 league goals for us per season.

Isn't he divorcing his wife or something like that?

And this year would be his first at the top of the Serie A scoring charts.
