Cavani: Clubs Should Not Be Put Off By My Big Price Tag

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has said that clubs should not be turned away from signing him by the hefty price tag over his head.

He has been linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City among others throughout the mercato but after signing a new deal with the Vesuviani, suitors would have to meet the €63m release clause in his contract.

“If a club has a clear project and want to focus on signing me then they can’t be frightened by this figure,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “For now, I am not focused on my future.

“Then it is up to the club to decide what to do.”

He only has himself to blame for signing a contract with such an outrageous fee installed. Middle of a recession with most clubs closer to the red than black yet he thinks signing a contract that would make him the most expensive transfer paid for a player in England, is sensible. If he's happy there then fair dues, but if he thought of moving down the line then he's basically put up a hurdle for himself to jump over.

I'd love him here but if that clause is true (I read 55m euro and that's high never mind another 8m!) then it's a no go. IMO fair value is what we paid for Aguero, maybe round up to £40m but £55m (give or take half a mill for currency) is way too much.

Only clubs who could get away with paying out like that are Real and PSG. If we did it we would be hounded but they'd be buying a world class player.

He may have signed that contract, but back in the real world, any serious offer will be listened to and probably accepted if it is high enough. Players are only one kick away from having their careers ended, and clubs will then end up with an asset worth nothing.

Yeah that release clause is high in order to force clubs to negotiate with Napoli instead of just the player. What Napoli can't afford is a high offer which they refuse leaving them with a disgruntled player. Their budget doesn't allow for that.

Well Italian transfer window closed cavani maybe in the summer.

Only for them buying, but we`re not going to sign him anyway. So doesn`t really matter whether it`s open or closed ;-)

Napoli is fighting for the title. Why would they sell their best player? Without him they can't win the title and might not make CL. Why would they risk losing all that money and a trophy when they can sell him for the same price in the summer?

I like how all it takes us 3 videos against city and everyone remembers what cavani can do but they forgot him cause falcao is the flavor of the month
