Gomez is a better finisher than Cavani and quite a bit better - Cavani is a better footballer. Question is do we need a finisher or a footballer and would 20m on a better finisher be money better spent than on Cavani - Gomez has also done it on a more physical and harder league.

Cavani is better but I would wager Gomez would get more goals for us
Last 3 years:
Gómez - 131 games/99 goals
Cavani - 138 games/104 goals

Pretty similar ratios there and given his mobility and power, Cavani would almost certainly be a better fit for us, imo.

He would score more goals for us than Gómez.

Gomez has a much better conversion rate: his shots per goal ratio is distinctly better than Cavani's.
That doesn't necessarily mean that he would score more goals for us though, does it?

The most annoying thing is Chelsea had no interest until recently. It was all about Falcao for them but then Monaco swooped in. Then the Rooney rumours, then the Dzeko rumours... now what seems to be concrete Cavani rumours. If Chelsea had landed one of those players, we could be unopposed right now which would increase the chance of ADL dropping the price or agreeing a swap deal. I hope we still have one ace left up our sleeve, especially as there's no guarantee yet that Chelsea will up their rejected offer.

To be fair, we don't really know that. It's all based on press speculation and conjecture. Who's to say they haven't been monitoring Cavani for a while.

exactly. They would be careless not to.

Chelsea need a forward more than we do. We have Aguero. They don't have anyone that good.

I don't quite get the clamour for Cavani so much. Personally, I think van persie is better than Cavani. Cavani certainly is good, no doubt. But I don't see him adding that much to us. We are quite capable of scoring goals. It's a very simplistic line of thought to assume that throwing more strikers at the equation = goals.

Re: the guy who said: "it's hazard all over again".

Hazard had an average season in all. In the big games he didn't stand-up. Was poor/garbage against us in all the many games we played.

To be honest, I thought he was excellent. Especially for his first ever season in prem, hence he was 3rd in young player of the year, wait until the mofo settles properly

Yet he can't get a start for Bayern. Speaks volumes.

nothing towards u. its this notion of that u have to play Setup a and if that goes to hell go to set b with 30 mins left. Just watch Munich they have wings and the ability to play through the middle its not impossible or revolutionary.
Funny when I watch Bayern I see wingers that are more like inside forwards not really crossers..

I said what I said because I'm of the opinion that Navas and Dzeko aren't starters....

what... ribbery constantly crosses the ball in (robben by nature is a selfish twat and would never pass the ball). when kroos was playing he constantly crossed the ball thats why he was ahead of him. and alba with lahm overloaded the sides. that let muller, shwine and the others do there work.
We're talking wingers u name the whole team...

And Ribery crosses are sucky from the left. Now his cutbacks however cause panic.

Wasn't it reported, said, tweeted or however you wanna take the info, that City have agreed wages etc with Cavani & it's only the price with Napoli that needs sorting? Well surely that shows he's happy to come & Napoli must of given us permission to speak to the player so they're open for the move!
Chelsea may of offered 'X' amount more but have not spoken to the player yet as far as we know! Also I find it hard to believe the day they rang Napoli that they had made an offer too.

If anything, the story you "should" be believing is the actual president himself, sayings straight from the horses mouth, that Chelsea want him and are going to call him. The one you should be taking with a truck load of salt, is the terms agreed printed in the papers. Either way, I guarantee Mourinho will be asked tomorrow about it, he will either deny, or big him up

Edit: By the way, anyone see that picture of Napoli fans putting a cardboard cut-out of Cavani in a steel cage lol as if to say "you ain't leaving"

its still the threat of width that will allow the players in the middle of the park get open chances on the goal... If if they are sucky

I'm getting deja vu from the RVP thread that was going strong last year. People confidently predicting we didn't need him. The feel good factor generated by Mourinho's return will undoubtedly make Chelsea more of a threat, but he's not a miracle worker and needs the tools to get the job done. Cavani would provide him with precisely that, and it's vital we beat Chelsea to his signature imo.
