Whisper it quietly, but it's possible that van Persie preferred United, and Cavani may prefer Chelsea. You don't always get to sign your top targets.

Very true but first you have to match the clubs asking price for the player to turn you down. We haven't done that with Cavini so we will never know if he preferred them over us.

I was speaking hypothetically (hence "may" prefer). As far as I know, no one has matched Napoli's asking price.

I just don't get it.

We paid money on Garcia, Maicon (wages) and Sinclair last season when we could have got RVP. This cost us the league.

Fernandinho may well be good but 30m for 28 yr old with 5 caps is overpaying. We lose out on the likes of Cavani and it could very well cost us the league again.

All journalists seem pretty convinced he is going to Chelsea.

Yep that may well be the case. Also means we have a problem in attracting some of the very top players, Aguero excluded.
Some of the best players in Europe now play at City

Yes but not all of them. Therefore we have a problem.

Not what I'm saying. If the journalists are right about Cavani to Chelsea then two summers in a row we haven't been able to get our top target. Just frustrating is all.

So Falcao is gone, Cavani could be on his way to Chelsea what does that realistically leave us with?
3 of the best strikers in the PL and a squad, that given the correct coach will flourish and not nervously look to the bench every time they miss a chance, expecting public ridicule.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 151 onwards)

according to the press or some of it, chelski offered 49.3m and allegedly gave napoli a list of fringe players to pick from for cavani? whats the point of that,if you really want him then bid the 53 or 54m whatever it is, it seems the moment someone else might be interested in someone we want,a minor panic appears here, its hazard all over again, weve fcked the league now if we dont get him, according to some they want hulk, rooney and cavani, hulk actually has said chelsea have made me an offer or have interest, the only thing i think cavani has said is chelsea and manchester city both want me? so lets wait and see, fixtures arent even out yet so how can anyone speak about fucking the league up all because of 1 player, you know strikers we already have arent bad you know, personally i think we`ll get him, torres doesnt want to go allegedly they have ba lukaku and god knows who else so how do you fit hulk cavani and rooney into all that this week should be interesting new boss being confirmed at some point,he`ll know who he wants, the bord and owners knwo what we need, lets just have a bit of patience

Re: Cavani Speculation/News (page 151 onwards)

The most annoying thing is Chelsea had no interest until recently. It was all about Falcao for them but then Monaco swooped in. Then the Rooney rumours, then the Dzeko rumours... now what seems to be concrete Cavani rumours. If Chelsea had landed one of those players, we could be unopposed right now which would increase the chance of ADL dropping the price or agreeing a swap deal. I hope we still have one ace left up our sleeve, especially as there's no guarantee yet that Chelsea will up their rejected offer.

A better player? He is a striker and strikers need to score goals. Which he did. All in a team were the build up play was as slow as a tortoise. Slow build up = opposing team get back and defend = more players in final third = less room to manoeuvre and create.

I can't let this myth about creativity being the problem last season grow. The problem was absolutely NOT creating chances, it was the lack of really clinical finishing that was the problem. Let me illustrate with a few examples:

West Ham away 0-0 65% possession, 22 shots, 5 on target and no goals.

Sunderland away 0-1 67% possession, 23 shots, 7 on target and no goals.

QPR away 0-0 69% possession, 17 shots, 4 on target and no goals.

Swansea away 0-0 62% possession, 12 shots, 3 on target and no goals.

There's 9 points lost of the 11 that we ended up behind the rags. 74 shots, 19 on target and not a single fucking goal. That's why IMO we need a clinical finisher, I don't much care who he is as long as he's effective.
This.
People should also watch extended highlights of games on OS. They are there and I have watched some of them and the number of chances we have missed is incredible.

This is true. However, the type of chances were on the whole at the end of a slow build up. Rather than fast attacks.

A recent study showed 63% of goals come from "transitions" (when you win ball back from opposition).

It is a lot rarer for a goal to come at the end of a long, slow build-up.

These chances are also harder when there are more defenders back.

It shouldn't therefore be dismissed that the creation is at fault just because chances have been created.
