Blues closing in on Edinson Cavani

City are closing in on strike ace Edinson Cavani as they begin to re-build for next season.

But the Blues are not prepared to pay the full £52m which triggers a release clause for the Napoli star, who is also being pursued by Paris St Germain and has attracted strong interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.

That means there is some hard bargaining ahead as Napoli have their iconic hitman tied up on a contract until 2017 – although they cannot afford to turn down a lucrative offer.

Cavani’s representatives are reported to have made tentative agreements with both Paris and City, although the Uruguayan is said to prefer a move to the Premier League.

Betting was suspended on his move to Paris in midweek following reports that the player had agreed terms.

But Napoli are playing a canny game, and M.E.N. Sport understands City are still very much in the hunt for a player who has scored 98 goals in three seasons at Sao Paolo, and whose three goals in two games effectively knocked the Blues out of last season’s Champions League.

Cavani has made it plain he wants to top 100 goals for the Serie A side and help to secure second place in the league, with Juventus running away with the title.

But he has already hinted he could be tempted away from Italy next season, sparking a chase for his signature.

he has no knowledge of this, just speculation based on pulling together the various rumours in the press over the last couple of weeks - in fact if he added a you tube music clip it would be right at home in this forum

Sounds like rumours are leaning in our favour at the moment on this lad. So, for us folk who aren't in touch with European football every week, what is this lad all about? (Beyond the point of looking good on YouTube).

Everytime you read " understands" you know you could come up with a more reliable story in your sleep.

The closest you come to a complete striker. Fast, fairly tall, high technical abbility, ace finishing, and a monster on the counter.

Rather spend the money on Bale and another midfielder tbh

I think people needs to forget the idea of us getting bale.

1. He will be to expensive, Levy is a crook and will demand +75m.
2. His future is not decided, he wont make up his mind untill the end of season where he will know if Spurs have qualified for CL
3. There are probably interest from outside of the PL, and therefor it will be a really hard to convince Levy to sell bale to a PL competitor.
4. His injury record is still very sketchy, and you will never put in that amount of money on an investment you are unsure about.

I'd be thrilled if we got him, however the price tag really concerns me so I really hope we manage to lower it..

Could easily be him pulling together other media reports but Brennan is a legit guy and pretty much confirmed what we know: we've agreed to terns with cavani he prefers us and its just down to figuring out a fee which we all assumed. If we wanted cavani deal done yesterday we would just pay his release clause but obviously cause we're not schmucks we're trying to negotiate them out of it which worries me that this could be drawn out for a while if they're trying to get the most out of us
