why use liverpool as a yard stick? we're challenging for the Prem League - whereas they, are not.................................fact is, we're not scoring enough goals, however you want to dress that up, its fact.

Not scoring enough ?? 3 goals a game ..not enough ??.. ffs I really do fucking despair on here sometimes..

played 22 scored scored 60...you do the maths.

We have won 17 games this season and are top of the table by 3 points, we have lost 2 and drawn 3 ..

we could have scored 3 more goals in every game we have won so far and we would still be top 3 points clear...Nowt would change.. Its all the goals we have scored that have us at the top..
I feel your pain.

You build teams around players like Cavani - if we dont snap him up he's guaranteed to go to Barca or Madrid.....................cant afford to miss this if we have designs on CL success. And same goes for Bale too. Hell, we can afford it!
We currently have only six first team players capable of challenging for the CL (hart, richards, kompany, silva, aguerro and yaya). Depends how quickly we want to get there really.

Its all gone a bit quiet on the Bale front - frankly, he was head and shoulders above everyone else from either side when they came to our place - the kid has everything........................

He is unlikely to go to Barcelona. Doesn't necessarily fit their profile. And Madrid has 2 very goodd strikers right now, so I doubt they'd take him either. So more likely than not, he is going to stay in Italy (Inter or Juve) if he moves, or he comes to England (City or Chelsea). So the fear that he would be snapped up like magic is unfounded. He would have to be as clinical and as successful this season as he was last, to register at the Real/Barca radar. So we have more time to evaluate him in my opinion.
As for building teams around him: I wouldn't go that far. He is not a top 5 player in the world, so you would not be building your team around him. At least not a team of the supposed caliber of City.

cant afford to miss this if we have designs on CL success. And same goes for Bale too. Hell, we can afford it!
Why? What is so special about Cavani that we can't afford to miss out on? Yes he had a great season last year for Napoli, and he is having another stellar one right now. But before we forget last season, which is his best yet, he pumped in 33 goals in 47 appearances, quite similar to how Dzeko pumped in 36 in 42 appearances in the (2008/2009) season. By the way, that Dzeko now plays for City. The team's style of play, plays a significant role in how well a striker performs on that team. And Napoli compliments Cavani greatly! Would he be good at City? Sure, he is a talented footballer. But there is no guarantee he will be special. None! Frankly, I think there are lesser players now, who would be better strikers for City.
I am certain Van Persie will be a better striker for City. As our style fits him better. Soldado too will be way better for us.
We currently have only six first team players capable of challenging for the CL (hart, richards, kompany, silva, aguerro and yaya). Depends how quickly we want to get there really.
I agree if we had, Hummels/Vertonghen to partner Komps, Filipe Luis to challenge Clichy, Isco as an up and coming backup to SIlva, and Reus/Lavezzi/Bale to add speed and trickery to our wingplay we will be a stronger squad. But this doesn't mean we are not quite strong as is. Coz we are.

Its all gone a bit quiet on the Bale front - frankly, he was head and shoulders above everyone else from either side when they came to our place - the kid has everything........................

Bale is a thoroughbred, bu quit that coolade you are drinking. He was not head and shoulders above anyone when we played. He scored a fantastic goal, and created a great scoring chance off a Savic mis-control. But for most of the night he was anonymous. This doesn't mean he isn't a great player, just that you need not rewrite history to prove it.

Just as a matter of interest are we actually interested in this player or are some posters just using this thread to display their knowledge of Italian football?
The latter

Clearly, both. There has been chatter of interest in the Napoli trio for a while. And thus any discussion of those 3, who all play in italy, would clearly touch on Italian football.

I actually think from watching Cavani that he is more suited to the Premier League than Dzeko is, mainly due to Cavani having more determination and strength than Dzeko as well as more pace. Cavani looks to have the same drive as Tevez without the baggage, whereas Dzeko looks to be too nice and more laid back, and in his play he usually looks lazy on the pitch, a bit more in the mould of Ibrahimovich.

Could we maybe swap edin for cavani then?

EXCLUSIVE: Napoli want to flog Three Tenors to Prem

Napoli owner has invited Premier League clubs to make offers for his three big stars this summer.

Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik have scored 35 goals between them this season before tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Chelsea.

And film impressario Aurelio Di Laurentiis has told Manchester City and Chelsea to join Europe’s other top clubs in bidding for the talents of the Three Tenors.

“There is never a real price. The price is what the clubs need and what is the hot moment of negotiation.

“They are all fantastic players. We have a lot of fantastic players. I don’t expect anything. Thanks to God, I don’t need the money from anyone. I am rich enough to survive.

"But if somebody wants to make an offer, we are here to listen. You never to close the door to anyone because we are polite.

“If someone wants to make an offer, they can make an offer. We can laugh off their offer if we are not satisfied or we can say: ‘Let’s sit down and discuss this’.

“In life, there is a always a price for everything. It is just a question of the right moment and the right people.”

De Laurentiis took over bankrupt Napoli in 2004 when they were in Serie C and has kept them in profit for the last five years.

“In my film business, I finance myself and I must keep my balance sheets in order. In football I apply the same technique.

"I understood of 16 in the knockout stages there are only Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Napoli which have positive balance sheets. All the others are in the red and that is a big problem. With financial fair play that is asked by Mr Platini from 2013/14, those clubs will have problems.”

De Laurentiis added: “It is not a good time to play Chelsea because they have fantastic players. In European competition, they play without the coach. It doesn’t matter. Remember: it can be a problem for the domestic league but never in an important match like this. Chelsea will be really strong and pose a real problem for Napoli.”

“If they have the money to pay, I am waiting for the offers,” he said.

I think he's amongst the best out there,i'd certainly prefer him over RVP,,alongside Mario and Aguero - the mouth waters.....

Dzeko(who i still rate) and 10m maybe do the trick??

In theory I'd swap Cavani for Dzeko any day but I worry about more chopping and changing with our squad now that it finally looks settled. I believe Cavani is one transfer to a title challenging club away from being recognized as the best old fashioned centre-forward in the world. I think he's better than Dzeko, Ibrahimovic, and Gomez (though Gomez scores more goals than anyone in that role but doesn't offer as much overall).

It's amazing how Napoli have put together such a talented team at such little cost (in the modern market). But I won't shed any tears when the team is raided next summer after the heinous comments by their owner towards us. I just don't want Cavani to end up at a domestic rival as I believe he'd tear this league apart, I'd rather Real or someone bought him if we don't.

There are three players from Napoli I wouldn't mind at City... Cavani up front, Lavezzi as the wide man, and Inler if we need a midfielder to replace De Jong (although Martinez might be a better buy but would cost twice as much). Hamsik is very good but I don't see any role for him at City with Silva, Nasri, and Yaya able to play attacking midfielder, and Suarez coming through the ranks.

Talksport have reported that Napoli are bracing themselves for `last gasp interest` from Manchester City. His agent has played it down though, it is apparently in the Italian media. Might be bollocks, but just noticed this on the BBC and Talksport sites.

Would be great, but can't see it. He'll be the first in this summer though...............

Here's a thought that should provoke some grief - anyone think David Luiz could be a very good holding midfield player for us? Don't rate his positional sense for a centre half, but has all the other attributes and an abundance of skill to be infront of them on his own POSSIBLY thereby releasing another player to be offensive for us next season?

HART
RICHARDS
KOMPANY
VERTONGEN
BALE

LUIZ
YAYA

SILVA
NASRI
AGUERRO

CAVANI
