Celtic game - strict security measures announced (page 34)

There are a group of right wing city fans who jump on the celtic-rangers thing to basically be anti-Irish. And yes it is racist/xenophobic to call people fenian bastards. Didn't have any problem with any celtic fans in Glasgow but did get abuse from some middle aged City fans for not going in for the anti Irish bullshit (I'm not even Irish btw)

The anti-English sentiment bubbling in Scotland and Ireland absolutely dwarves that you've mentioned by a huge amount.

Anti-Irish in Manchester? How ignorant can one be? If you had ten mates growing up then chances are five had Irish parents or grandparents.

The gaffer in one of my locals is Irish and everyone loves him.

Yeah, how could anyone in Manchester possibly hate the Irish. I mean it's not like they blew up our entire city center a couple of decades ago, is it?

That was the IRA (or Real IRA or whatever they call themselves) not 'the Irish' as a whole. I presume you wouldn't want to be tarred with the same brush as EDL thugs for example, just by virtue of being English?

In their defense, I can't remember the EDL blowing up Manchester City center.

I actually quite like the majority of Irish people I've met. Dublin is my favorite City away from Manchester. As with every group of people, there will be some good ones and some bad ones.

I doubt very much that the EDL has any good ones.

Is that like 'my best mate is black, how can I be racist'?

People who have no experience of Glasgow, other than a flying visit, are sheltered from the undertone that exists... Even today

Thankfully, it's a generational thing and myself, siblings, and extended family, laugh our tits off at how ridiculous the whole thing is.... My old man mocked the Irish into his 50s, transpired when he was searching for his real mum that she was called Mary Kelly and more Irish than Jonathan swift...
