Here’s a thing. Up here right now, we have yet another reset from our lovely pals. Regardless how it turns out, whoever is appointed new Messiah in Chief, they will be coming, again. They have had so much practice at it that you just know if they threatened to arrive with such defiance, we may be in for a scrap.
There are three major factors working at the same time that need to be considered.
1. The manager is vital. He needs to be of the calibre to build a new team. Lead from the front and be able to topple Rogers, in recruitment, tactics, style of play and most importantly, topple Rogers and win the league. No excuses will suffice.
2. The Budget. Rangers have spent a lot of money. Let’s be clear about that. The issue is, the vast majority of it has been on players, the Rangers fans want rid of. This happens every season. That is criminally awful recruitment. Rangers will need to operate within the FFP. That will be a challenge, due to consecutive years of financial mismanagement. An example of Morelos, Kent left for nothing, then repeated last year with a handful of players also left for a pocketful of coppers. Truly mind blowing and a contributory factor in my big mate being extremely folliclely challenged. That sort of stuff needs ending, I hope they fail. Money talks, but you can still sing and dance if you have good recruitment. We got Hatate, O’Riley,Maeda, Kyogo for just over £10m. Rangers have spent five times that on utter shite. There are players out there. The right manager doesn’t need £100m, he needs an eye fir a player and a recruitment team who can find what he is after Again, here’s hoping that never happens.
3. What are Celtic going to do, sit and wait for them to catch up? Nah. We know that players will leave, important players, Hatate, Maeda, possibly Khun. They will be a big loss. But, that’s fitba. Rogers will know right now who is going. We missed out on a striker in the January window and Rogers was pissed off, as where all Celtic fans. I was very upset. After doing well in the CL, we know we have to push on to achieve that again. I am confident we will. There’s a lot of money involved and our board love a lot of money, realising you have to invest to get it, has never been a historical trait and saving money cost us nearly £100m, by failing to qualify for the CL, 9 times out of 12 when that Great Businessman Lawell, refused to spend £6m on a CB, played Bitton at cb and that was that. Lessons have been learned. I will never be completely chill with our board doing the right thing, at the right time. Too many scars for that, but I am confident we will be stronger next year. And subsequently, out of reach from our dearly beloved.
So, all of the above, the guy, the cash, and what are Celtic going to do, will determine who wins. I never underestimate them. I never write them off. I’m too battle hardened for that. I am looking forward to it. I love a good fucking set too. Although, the Valium alone, required for that, may be considerably more than medically advised. Fuck it, I want another crash and burn, the spectacle of Phoenix soaring on unflinching delusion, to then stutter, cough, go arse over tits and crash and burn, all culminating in a crescendo of heartwarming boos.
I can see it now. I’m wiping a tear whilst smiling.
