Centre Midfield

In a 433 I would think they would be the most advanced midfielder, with two central midfielders behind them. As the thread is about central midfielders I was talking about who might play in those positions.

I just have an idea it might sometimes be, for example, Fern, Gundogan plus one other which 'could' perhaps be a Silva or DeBruyne, then 3 attackers.

But if you imagine the fullbacks stepping into midfield, as per Bayern, it could even be two creative mids as part of the midfield 3. But then there's the 343 formation etc ;)

We have absolutely loads of possibilities for a proper manager. Almost too many.

442 probably isn't one.

Fernandinho is not being earmarked to play in another position. That's just not true.

Pep said he could play CB when asked if Fernandinho could play CB like Mascherano, he also said he could play 10 positions.

He didn't say he *will* and his moves in the transfermarket don't back it up.

Fair point, earmarked was probably too strong a term for it. More that it has been suggested.

Pep usually plays with 1 anchor and 2 attacking midfielders.

I hope that is the case, if so we are going to be even more attacking than I thought!

I think we have several players who are potentially able to play centre mid & we can find the right blend/s during the season. I also think Kroos does a job for Germany which Pep doesn't actually employ in his teams, he usually has a more robust player defensively at the back of the midfield, so had Kroos signed, I don't think we would have played him in Busquets spot. I don't think Kroos is a better option elsewhere, than Silva (if fit) so I'm happy not to have him.
Actually I think if we have Kroos, it's Gundogan that will be playing in Busquets' place. Kroos will be a little
Bit more advanced.

Thank you and @Hungarian blue for the explanation. I didn't realise that, looks like we have to make some tough decisions but hopefully means some CL exposure for the kids.

Including the kids we have signed.

We could do like last season & drop Nasri for example, out of the CL squad for Kelechi. Then drop another older player out for Sane. In fact I would bet on that happening.

And you think Pep doesn't realise that?

You have been presented with two world class CMs, Gundogan and Fernandinho, with a range of available, albeit younger, backup options available. I'm not quite sure what more you want, especially since we can only field so many players.

Until the squads have been finalised we don't know if the younger lads will be utilised this season. If they will be involved then that's great, but personally I'd be happy to see another central midfielder come in for strength in depth. If Pep sees Stones (if he signs) playing there on occasions then it might not be needed.

That's the great thing about all this, the number of options available. That and having a manager that will try different combinations.

In the bluemoon forum the thread about the team v Sunderland is really interesting as hardly anyone has picked the same formation or starting eleven. We are very fortunate to have such a strong squad.

I love it.

We have no fucking idea who will crop up where ;)

I don't even give a shit if it doesn't work to start with. There will be a plan behind it & eventually, the plan will be adapted into something that works, amazingly well.

Agreed, even if it takes a little while to click it will be worth the wait!

Im abit worried about CM think we could do with 1 more player. But i think silva might drop deeper and player more of a CM role i would like to see a 4-3-3 formation.

ST Aguero
LW Sterling RW Sane

CM De Bruyne
CM Silva

CDM Gundogen

Probably yes.

But personally if that's the case, I'd rather see DS given a run in mid rather than Kroos. Miles better footballer imo (if fit).
I think it's more about rotation than anything. If we could always pick 2 out of Kroos, Gundogan, and Silva every game, it will be massive. Silva is getting right up there in age and couldn't go every game.

They would get destroyed defensively.

We already purchased the best CM in Germany, his injury was a freak one from training that looks to be ahead of schedule. Real Madrid and Barca are the only 2 teams stocked in that position but with Madrid not buying Pogba they won't be selling since they have a ban coming up.

In a Pep 4-1-4-1 Fernandinho or Gündogan(Aleix Garcia should be groomed for this role) can be that 1 in front of the defense with KDB/Silva apart of the 4 with Sterling/Nolito Sané/Navas on the wings.

4-3-3. Fernando/Fernandinho/Gündogan in the middle with Delph/Yaya (Garcia's if we ever need to get this far) as options

Point is, we aren't as short a lot of people seem to think. The problem with the MF was Pelle's tactical suicicde playing Dinho/Yaya where Yaya isn't tackling well and Dinho overcommiting to make up + seemingly always a card away from being sent off. That changes the way tackles went in from there. With a more pressure based tactic, with the entire team working to win the ball back as soon as possible, these mistakes shouldn't happen.

Spot on mate.

All in all I think if we get our targets ie stones sane gabriel moreno, I think it'll be a very good transfer window

Spot on MDD I suspect we'll see the benefit of playing with 11 players every game as Yaya won't be lasting long as a starter when Pep watches his 'movement'.

His liability in midfield is like an anchor around the team.

I expect to see a fit Delph, Dihno & Gundogan control the middle against every team in the Prem.

I think that's a bit unfair on yaya. The guy's 33, I don't expect him to run around the pitch like a headless chicken and I'm sure pep realises this too.

Other than that I agree with your last sentence

I would love it if Kroos, Verratti, or Rakitic could join us.

We already have a great midfield but signing one of these players would move us up to the world class bracket.

Does feel we're a player short in that area, which suggests we'll be dropping someone a bit deeper at times to me, be it Silva/Nasri/De Bruyne.

Feel the main issue we've had this window is offloading players that we don't need, deals for Kolarov, Zaba, Bony & Yaya all seem to have risen their heads before falling back through. We only have a certain number of places in the squad, if we can't cut down from the current list it'll make it far harder to add new faces.

kroos would be a dream signing but rakitic would also be a great signing!
