CFG acquire Mumbai City - Yokohama J league champions

Not sure the CFG want or expect you to be arsed tbh.
They won't, but they will want the fans of those clubs to care, and by the very nature of it care a bit more about the parent club, who are helping them hopefully become successful, if you listen to Khaldoon's interview with SKY yesterday, he said that all the clubs were "profitable", so they are not just "hangers on" to City.

I know nothing about the ISL, and don't know how many clubs play in Mumbai, but 18.4 million people live in that City, and if say 5% of the wealthy ones take an interest in City, then it could be a significant increase in City's fan base, and potential merchandise (same applies in China and Japan in particular).

That's on top of the commercial benefit of being part of a global group of clubs.

Seems 'the boss' may have just been looking at operating profit, which is what a lot of companies do as a positive if they are making a loss, as it suggest future profitability is possible.

Sorry to sound like d1ck but what is the difference “operating profit”? Thanks

I was told something last night which sounded interesting?

Apparently City would be able go to the City Football Group for loans, advances, cash, all at 'preferable rates'?

This is an option, much in the same way as united hide their debt, I very much doubt we will need to use this vehicle though going forward, unless one of the top 2-3 player in the world who happen to still be under 25 shows an interest in joining city.

This reminds me about the surprise of some people that City had a borrowing facility with Barclays whereby we had taken a loan from Barclays bank to fund operations and then agreed to repay the loan once the TV broadcasting deal was payable.

I don't know what's allowable but it strikes me that a state-run football club doesn't get embroiled in chicanery like this; it just opens its coffers.

Im finding some of the posts on here bizarre but may be a lack of understanding of what is going on here. Sorry i rarely post but been on here for years so forgive the lurker.

"We would benefit more with Mbabbe in City colours"
- Im sure we would but Silverlake did not invest to purchase Mbappe as this in no way leads to them doubling their money". They invested to get the group into expanding world markets which will increase the group revenues and profits and so mean their investment goes up. City are massively the biggest source of revenue but by NO means the biggest opportunity to grow these revenues
- They are an INVESTOR so their interest is earning out of the transaction
- If the money was for City alone WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE MONEY - City are not worth £4.8bn - the CFG and the potential which has been built is worth that, City are just currently the brand and biggest element of the group - and I say CURRENTLY

"Doesn't mean anything to the fans of City"
- Why would they care? They are investing in the company, the current fans get an amazing product and will continue to do so, however they want new fans in new markets to buy the expanded amazing product"

"Management effort being spread"
- We are a massive worldwide business - do you seriously think we will not invest in the management with the global and local skills and knowledge to ensure that any investments around the world will not succeed? We will EMPLOY MORE PEOPLE!!!

"Loss making other clubs"
- City were loss making not long ago, the Premier League market has expanded, our product has expanded, we are now not loss making. This is a concept called INVESTMENT and what business men do to make money.

"Comparisons to Tesco expanding into Europe"
- We are not tesco expanding into already saturated and highly competitive markets, we are a business which is expanding into markets which are under supplied (USA, Japan, India, Australia, China etc) but have MASSIVE (hehe) potential for expansion. We do not face competition, we do not have to break into the market, we can be part of creating the market

I'm not sure about how some of the comments come about, we are lead by world class business men, we have just brought in experts in a massive market (China) and world class investors and (Silver Lake). We are playing with the biggest names in business in the world, yet being criticised by people who have not seen the business plans. Trust me these people do not just chuck £500m in with no knowledge of what is to be done with it, what returns will come and when.

Lots of talk on Product, brand, investment etc - not football. i know this scares some football fans but the amazing football we see now is the PRODUCT they are providing to us and will continue to be provided with as long as these people are involved with us. But alongside that how many clubs get the access to the owners we do - just look at the end of season interview and what we are told - do the Americans in charge of Liverpool and united do that? No! they recognise the importance of the fans alongside their project

WE HAVE AMAZING OWNERS - ENJOY THE RIDE

Yes and no - you have to use market rates or you may be falling fowl of tax law among other technicalities. That said - you could drive a truck through the loopholes hence why the likes of Starbucks pay practically zero tax.

Are City greater as the kingpin of an international group, or are we weakened by subsidising loss-making international ventures?

There was much excitement when the $500m investment in CFG was announced, but this is the background: investments in clubs other than Man City. I can see that clubs like NYC may benefit from being linked to Man City, but do Man City see benefits?

I can think of the odd player e.g., Aaron Mooy, but generally, it looks like City are pumping money into overseas football clubs. There must be some synergies but they are vague. MBappe in a Man City shirt would not be vague.

I do like the idea of City being part of a big family of international clubs, but about 0.0001% of my emotional investment is vested with the overseas clubs, and the rest is with Man City. From what I understand all but Girona are loss-making, (and they were relegated and part-owned anyway), so wouldn't the fans of Man City be happier still if the US$500m went direct into Man City?

As we see with Man Utd, a poorly managed club can haemorrhage money. Can CFG really effectively managed a huge number of overseas football clubs? I doubt this model has much chance of success. People think Khaldoon etc is a genius, and super intelligent guy, well he may be but he only has two eyes and one brain and limited capacity to focus.

Generally, financial markets frown massively on companies that aggressively expand overseas because it is a managerial disaster.

the more we spread the word the better we will become. unlike the main media players ?? city have to do all there own work in spreading the news and word. and if this is the only way then its ok by me, the media hate us and all the bad press they pump around the world does go against us and without a chance to defend yourself and put them right the world based fan club will not grow

manchester city should be putting up the sold out signs up at every game and the ground should be 70.000 to 80.000 full of fans. but the media are reporting all the bad and false stories and its empty etihad and we are only here because of the money. we have won 13 trophies in ten years but in many countries we are still not talked about and its still united and liverpool that are the best clubs in england. but the one thing we need to put across is style of football we play. the way we play is the best and its not coming across to the overseas fans, and if we self promote the word all i can say is just watch a couple of games and if we own a big team in that country the word will soon spread
