CFG Expansion | Başakşehir to join? (p70)

What is the CFG business model? How does buying up small, lower level clubs help on a business basis?
Is it that we can maximise sponsorship reach?
Does it dilute our centralised costs freeing more funds up for players?
Not sure of how the mechanics of the business are helping City?

It is not a get rich quick investment, it is long term. Like our transfer policy is mostly buying developing players with the potential to improve, we invest in low cost clubs with the potential to improve their status over a period of time. Do not expect radical investment and improvement as seen at City, low cost clubs are like acorns to be nourished in the hope that they over time become oak trees, some won't make it but with the quality of CFG management I would expect in ten to 20 years time most will have substantially increased in value.
It's not a whole heap of money required to give Girona a good manager and a solid squad capable of banging out 45 points a season in La Liga. The bottom half of La Liga rarely has a pot to piss in.

To be fair this plan of a network of several clubs was sorianos dream at barca amd if nit ousted he wpuld have implememted it there.

Imagine of that was so and we were still owned by a poorer benefactor and barca came calling to add us to their portfolio of clubs, I expect mamy of us wpuld have been agaimst ot so I understand NEC fans reaction.

I think the process of creating new clubs or investing in clubs in their early years rather than buying established clubs has left push back and as has been seen with Mumbai and Melbourne they have been ecelated with some inotial trepidation from exsting fans but not hositility like Breda.

With clubs long established partnering is a better option
Yeah I definitely wouldn’t have wanted City to become part of some ugly monster club network headed by Barcelona. The idea seems bloody awful to me.

Good on Breda fans for not wanting to become part of ours, I completely get it!

I'm a bit nonplussed by this strategy if I am honest, sounds a bit megalomaniacal I just want anything to do with us front and center.

Yes and yes

I think longer term it branding building content growing football and real estate development.

Come back years from now and I imagine we will perhaps have a finalized deals on clubs in maybe perhaps another 5 locations their will be CFG tournaments TV

we haven’t yet seen the City Branded products Cook envisaged.

we could see campuses across the globe certainly in Manchester and New York but why not also in the other richer more developed global cities where we have clubs.

Could see global soccer pitches and Academies remember CFG on goal soccer pitches or whatever it’s called which are all over America and I think we be done a lot in China ? Not sure where we are up to with this but I am
Sure there are links between CFG the government plans in China and educational establishments

don’t forget Soriano comments about us being like Disney

It is about the globalisation of sport so you need to compare our model with groups like Amazon. Not everyone likes globalisation but my view is if you can’t beat them join them. The value of New York City FC will grow hugely as the US football business grows. At the moment Manchester City are the flagship for CFG.

Yeah, most working class Mancunian families can’t afford to take their kids to Disneyland either

Whats your point ? Besides I don’t agree with your view on what it is to be working class in any event people even with limit means spend a fortune on entertainment and Disneyland Manchester would be a heck of a lot cheaper for a Mancunian than Disneyland Florida or Paris

I take it City know this is Mafia country?

Palermo play in Pink. I don't think their fans and Ultras will take too kindly to City changing the badge or colour of the kit if City want to integrate Palermo into the CFG?

Ultras in Italy are very powerful and have an unofficial, but accepted say on club matters, which sometimes brings them into direct conflict with the owner/s of the club.

I hope City have done their homework on Italian fan/Ultra terrace culture?

City Football Group will pay around €6 million for Palermo and it’s clear that their value will only continue to rise as the years go by. This will likely have important sporting results for the Sicilian side, who are preparing for the Serie B play-offs.

The two parties are now in constant talks and work is ongoing to close out a deal soon, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Mirri will retain a share and will hold a representative role at the club following the takeover

I read somewhere that when Palermo started out they played in Red but when they washed the kit the colours ran out so they had to play in pink shirts from then on. They couldnt afford a new kit.

Dont think City should mess with colours and badges of clubs already established.

You'll only upset the Americans. I once mentioned to an American I was working with that my neighbours had gone on holiday to Disneyland in Florida
He spent the best part of an hour educating me that Disneyland was in Anaheim, California.
