Madrid is in huge crisis. Shit, why we didn't get them.
Do you seriously think we'd beat them?

Well, I'd rather play them at this particular moment than Barcelona. Don't know if we'd beat them or not.

What a game and gives us hope next week. Sad to think that these great nights will be missed by the majority next year when BT gets exclusive rights though.

Just goes to show, with the right attitude you get along way in this competition. I'm sick of our half arsed performances, it's about time we showed up at barca next week. We can beat anyone on our day so lets have them.

Unlucky schalke, what a performance.
This all day long - time to get to it - they've had two 10 day breaks so no excuses the rest of the season re tiredness

That Shalke performance has made me a little more optimistic about next week as long as we can replicate the drive and hunger.

Also, that Sane was playing against our U19's last week, he didn't look out of place tonight and scored a great goal, hopefully we cam see that playing our youngsters isn't something to be afraid of.

Spot on,schalke came with nothing to lose, and nearly pulled it off far better side tonight,if we can put in a similar effort next week we might have a chance,it all depends on pellegrini's set up and the players putting in a shift...

Honest question but why would a manager play youngsters if he is only expected to be at the club for 3 years? Schalke have an injury crisis as well at the moment that has forced them to use him. Farfan, Draxler, Kevin Prince Boateng obviously Choupo-Moting wre all under pressure. Why would I risk playing a kid when they are unpredictable. Said it before but even the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Muller etc had years where they were slumping and relatively poorly. Unless a manager has security why risk it.

That Sane was playing against our young lads not that long ago.

About 2 weeks ago, I think. He looked good that day too.

Can't imagine Byrne or Barker or Celina being chucked in against Barca next week, so credit to Schalke for having faith in their young uns

I do agree and I have said on here numerous times that unless our DOF forces it upon our manager to play the kids he won't play them.

Every time I see Casilas I'm certain they'll go for De Gea
He has ego problems. Thinks he is too good to be dropped. He is a liability.

Shalke were excellent but Casillas was shocking, Rags will be crapping it because Madrid will come knocking without doubt after De Gea!

Madrid fans are a bit mental.. they have one of the World's best players, the most expensive player in the World, one of the best managers in the Champions League and they only just recently ended something like a 22 match unbeaten run AND they're through.. still boo the team.

Barca will do them next week anyway, will enjoy seeing Ronaldo have a moan.

And Barcelona playing like a bunch of strangers like Madrid did.

Well that would help too...

They are without doubt the worst fans in the world. Controversial but I'd say even worse than the other horrid team.

I'm disappointed that Schalke didn't progress, as it would have been a great boost for the 'smaller' clubs in the competition.

But of course that could never be allowed to happen; it wouldn't do to have one of the 'big guns' going out at this stage.

On loan from Madrid, could have done with him tonight if just to appease their fans; because progression clearly wasn't enough.

very proud of my Schalke boys, and some of them are really boys, 19-21 years of age
Unlucky, but if you'd shown up in the home game, you might well be through :)

Actually Schalke already played a very good home match - just did not convert their chances and Real was clinical with theirs.
