Yep, that's my point, win their final two Europa fixtures ie semi final second leg and final and they jump above us in the rankings.

why do utd have over 2700 for this season when they have not been in Europe??

are you high? We're 3 points ahead of Napoli. 3.043 to be exact. Not 3,000. Napoli get 2 points per win, so if they win the EL they're certainly above us.
United have 2.7142 points this season (not 2000) because they're English. Each club gets a certain number of points depending on how well the average team in the country did. See this site: http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/tcoef2015.html for the coefficient breakdown

There is another wrinkle to this.
IF one of Valencia, Leverkusen or Man U/Arsenal lose in the playoff, we are in pot 2.
They will be seeded in the playoffs, but stranger things have happened.

With Juve going through tonight we've all but lost our chance of getting into pot 2 due to a non-league winning CL winner.
Now heavily relying on Napoli not to win the EL, since the other options are extremely unlikely.
