Champions League 15/16 seeding - City CONFIRMED Pot 2 - Pg20

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

A fourth placed finish in the Premier League would mean a two legged play-off against one of the following at present:

Monaco (France)
Krasnador (Russia)
Ajax (Netherlands)
Shaktar (Ukraine)
Gent (Belgium)
Besiktas (Turkey)
PAOK (Greece)
Young Boys (Switzerland)
Rapid Vienna (Austria)
Sparta Prague (Czech R)

Any one there that you fancy a visit to?

Krasnador, it sounds funky.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

It's all getting dull and repetitive with the same big guns filling 3 of the 4 semi final places each year and one club interloping and managing to fill the other space. This will continue for as long as they allow teams from the same leagues to continually avoid each other up to the QF's, these rules are throwbacks to the days before FFP and were designed to make sure the big guns of that time, RM, Barca, Man Utd, Arsenal, Bayern, AC, Inter, Juve were all able to go as far as they could in the tournament without the risk of them knocking each other out before the QF.
I hope City get into Pot 2 but ultimately what is possibly more important is getting a Pot 1 team that is not Barca, RM, Bayern, Juve as that will give us more chance of finishing top and moving through to the QF.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

Thought I'd provide a brief update as we should have a clearer picture of how things stand now. Here's where we were previously...

i.e., we are 17th (though we'll fall to 18th if Napoli win EL) in the seedings, but shalke and dortmund missing out means we need two of:

1) Barca/Real win league, t'other win CL
2) PSG win the title
3) Sevilla get 4th place
4) Napoli NOT to win europa league

to happen

So,
2) has all but happened, especially with Lyon 2-0 down as I type. Good.
3) is unlikely. Valencia need 6 points from their final 3 games. They have Real, but then two piss easy teams. Also relies on Sevilla winning all their last three. Bad.

Meaning we need one out of options 1) and 4) to happen.

For 1) we'd need Real to get past Juve in the second leg, as with a Real/Barca final there's a 50/50 chance of option 1) happening.
We're a bit unlucky with Napoli getting the easiest SF draw for option 4), I can definitely see them in the final, whether they win it is another 50/50 chance in my opinion.

All in all it's looking quite tight now. The new rule of CL spot going to the EL winner could really fuck us over....

There will be 5 spanish teams in the champions league should both atletico and valencia finish in the top 4 and if sevilla wins the europa league which would be even worse for us.

Worth also bearing in mind is that Valencia, Rags, Napoli and Leverkeusen,if they all qualify, will be in the play offs. If one of the 4 go out we would move up a place.

That shouldn't affect out pot though. Sevilla are currently 12 points behind - no way they'll catch us up. Napoli are only 3 behind - which is why they'll go ahead of us if they win the europa league. That's the worry.

Very true, but if recent years are anything to go by its ultimately likely the highest rank teams will all qualify.

As we are effectively 15th because of Schalke and Dortmund missing out, we must be in Pot.2 surely?

No, read the first post. Pot system has changed so that the top pot now hosts the winners of the 8 top leagues (or 7 + CL winner if CL winner doesn't win their league). Which means Zenit and PSV will go above us in the pots, even though they have lower seedings, hence the list of things we need to happen in my previous post.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

We have to beat QPR today just to calm the nerves and finish a hopeful, though unlikely 2nd, or a probable 3rd. The rags won a tricky looking encounter against Crystal Palace, their tails will be up, let's nail on one of those spots, I don't like the look of those qualifying teams.
