Champions League: BT extends TV rights until 2021 in deal worth £1.2bn

As a football fan, in in general disappointed with this. The quality do the package they offer is not great, particularly the commentary and punditry, and it is yet another service the average, law abiding footy fan has to shell out for. Or pubs that pay for the privilege to show BT as well as, or instead of, Sky.

As a City fan, I know for certain I won't be watching their coverage even if we get to the Champions League final and I can't get a ticket. I'd rather watch in Spanish than have to listen to Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and the ilk being part of the presentation & service I had paid for. As said many, many times this this thread before, It would have been bearable if it had been fair.

Many UEFA were swung by some astounding plans BT have to improve and change their format. Or maybe money talks and it is just different hogs around the trough.

Delighted. I get BT free in Ireland as an eir customer.

I hope sky die a miserable death and lose the prem too.

This is bad for us from a business point of view

No terrestrial coverage will mean that should we reach our potential and become regular last 8/4/finalists or winners. The majority of the country won't see it.

The rags built up their brand by the oceans of terrestrial they got and still have.

It's all a ploy, so that once we win the chumps league nobody will know that we did cos no one will be watching it .

We get BT as Virgin Media customers. Just phoned them up and got a tenner knocked off the monthly bill, no questions asked. Easy.

Ah well, more significant matches which won't be seen by the same audience volumes which saw the likes of Rags in '99 Dippers in' 05 and so on.

People won't even be aware of a English club winning this once prestigious tournament.

Money before prestige.

I still have my broadband with BT but refuse to subscribe to their TV package as they are rag bastards.

Wish I lived in a cabled area so I could move from BT

Go to Talk Talk, really good and much cheaper than BT. My 18month contract just expired with them but even though it's gone up it's still cheaper than BT.

But why switch though, as you still pay for your line rental which is owned by BT.
Regardless of your ISP, BT still profit.

If Virgin installed cables in my area tomorrow I'd switch straight away.

Good point, so would I but electricity still comes into our houses on poles so not holding my breath for cable anytime soon!

This is a great deal for the pub trade and manufacturers of kodi sticks. To not even have highlights available to riff raff like me is unbelievable

Fuck that, sky is definitely going at renewal, no matter what deal I get and BT I wouldn't touch. BT seem to be killing this competition, there was a time where it would be talked about widely and covered the same, but now it seems as though most people don't even bother watching the game. I'll seriously look in to one of them sky boxes.

Apparently BT are using it purely as a means of boosting broadband sales. Can't last indefinitely but they obviously think its still worth it.

Its a real shame that City v Monaco was only watched by a tiny audience. If it had been on ITV, even with Keane, it would have had a major impact on our profile.

BT have already been hauled over the coals about their spending - they have robbed Peter to pay Paul as it were - taken money from broadband roll out in rural areas budgets and used it "elsewhere". I think this shows where. The regulator isn't overly happy with that but the BT bandwagon goes on - used to be "ours" you know.
