Champions League Draw - 29th August '24 | Opponents (pg69) | Fixtures (pg128)

What difference would it make though now? They'd still have to play 2 teams from each of the 4 pots
the change would of been if you was in pot A you’d play 1 game against a pot A team and against three teams in pot D for example. Either way this new format will be interesting to see, I reckon it could be better than what we had anyway.

I’m obviously talking from the “champions” league perspective. Just feel as the “champions” they should have kept a benefit for them teams. It should always be how teams performed the year before and not some coefficient bullshit. But oh well.

Well the holders are automatically in Pot 1, so that’s some acknowledgment from the previous season.

I dont mind this new format, imo can provide much more exciting first half of the CL. group stage apart from the group of death was usually very much straightforward, with maybe one underperforming bigger club failing at group stage or someone in group of death.

here the sheer number of games between top clubs will be higher.

hope dippers, Arse get a real hard ass run of 8 opponents, especially Arteta, who is yet to make his team doing deep runs in multiple competitions.

Villa imo will suffer, for them even the old group stage would have been a big extra ask, now they might have some real tricky opponents if they are unlucky with the draw. imagine them playing Bayern, Real, Leverkusen, Juventus, PSV, Salzburg, Girona, Monaco in between some hard PL games all the way until January.

best to avoid as many top league opponents imo for City, would be good to get 3-4 100% win games, where something like a 7-1-0 or 7-0-1 or 6-2-0 gets us 1st or 2nd place still, very much doubt there will be clubs tho winning even 7 games let alone 8 of 8. to win 4 away from home is hard with some of those will be between tricky domestic fixtures too.
expect 19-20 points be enough to be in top 3 in league stage.

Villa better off in this format in theory as they get to play same number of "weaker" sides. We have a similar chance of getting those opponents.

Give the 1st 30 minutes a swerve. It will be nothing more than UEFA PR, and former players being paid a fortune to appear before the draw. Yawn.

I have fuck all clue how it works, fuck all motivation to find out and fuck all enthusiasm about the competition at all this season

sent a text to a rag friend that City and another 35 clubs are the founding fathers of this new CL, where is his team?:))
turns out they will be founding father of EL new format shit. suits them well.

Be a good game to try and guess which former players will be interviewed.

I’ll go for Guti and Matthias Sammer.

Yep, there'll be a couple of sparkling presenters screeching propaganda from the rooftops. Always feels like the Eurovision with less " musical" distraction. Although, if you contrast with League Cup draw last night, it's a bit of a turd polishing exercise all round?

But makes it a bit more likely that the CL winners may not have been their national champions the previous season.
