Champions League Draw (Shakhtar, Napoli, Feyenoord)

Hi all,

Greetings from Holland:

a few years ago some English blokes helped my during one of my many UK trips. Now it's time to return the favour for the Feyenoord away match in Holland:

I have spare rooms from 2-4 people who can sleep over. After the match I can take you home. As long as you are with me and don't take liberties it should be allright.

send me pm when interested.
Love the username thanks for the offer but I think I will pass

Hi Japie,

I actually wrote a song about this situation it goes like this 'strangers in the night exchanging glances'.

On a serious note that is a really kind offer and your fans have come across extremely well on this thread. Lets hope we both have a successful champs lge campaign.

There are quite a few saying this.
Is it so bad as to warrant the widest berth possible.
I was in Naples and the lady at the bureau de change gave instructions on wallet zipping and the hiding of valuables.
To be honest the place looked as rough as toast : /
We only stayed a short while using it for transit to Pompey.

Happy though to take up scraps as I have more chance of platting piss than getting tickets for Feyenoord.
Is the Napoli run as bad as they say..
Scary stories below or a sniff of good advice please.
Arrivederchi :

How would you be travelling to Napoli and then to the ground? From what I've heard its not a good idea to be wandering round Napoli on matchday on your own or in a small group.

Hello everyone, Napoli fan here. Excellent draw for us, I was actually looking forward to playing City again and trust me - this is going to be a fantastic clash. It is true we don't have Cavani anymore but we now have a terrific coach and we display fantastic football style. I am sure our manager will soon move to a big club in UK. Our team has also improved since 2011/12; we now have a young talented team we are very proud of. It is true we don't have top players like Cavani or Lavezzi anymore but don't forget our defense and midfield were pretty awful back then - we played Chelsea with Cannavaro (moved to Sassuolo the following year), Campagnaro (moved to Pescara), Aronica (retired after a terrible spell in third division), Gargano (moved to Mexico), Dossena (retired one year later) and other weak players who completed the starting XI back then. Nothing compared to the young, brilliant team we enjoy now: Insigne (Barcelona seemed interested in buying him to replace Neymar), Mertens (Barcelona made an official bid this summer but the player refused a move), Koulibaly (Chelsea had a 60m offer rejected), Ghoulam (Monaco has offered 40m to buy him). On top of that, Hamsik has never been in better form this year and we just bought Milik from Ajax last year for 32m. It's going to be a fantastic display of football in our group and I can't wait to see Sarri vs Guardiola.

Yes welcome to the board.

I've been following Napoli for a number of years now & have to say they've been playing some of the most gorgeous football I've seen in Europe. The passing and movement of the front three of Mertens, Insigne & Callejon is breathtaking at times, especially against notoriously stubborn Italian defences.

After coming back from his injury, Milik seems a bit out of place in the way Napoli play this season & more of a plan B big man in the box if the starting front 3 aren't effective.

I would say Napoli play fairly similar to City currently, as both are great going forward but complacent at times at the back.

I hope Sarri stays, rather than being poached as he could build something special in Naples - all this from an accountant as a previous profession!

I too will be watching the Sarri vs Guardiola matchup with excitement as both coaches have similar football philosophies & for once Pep can prepare for a game when the opposition won't put 10 men behind the ball as a game plan!

I went with the Wife to the match last time - we went for a break down the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Capri & Positano for a few days beforehand, and then went to Naples on the day, and met up with another City couple, went to the port meeting point, and were bussed in/out the ground. Sorrento is a great (safer) place for beers before, and you can get the train into Naples quite easily...

The ground was an experience - not for the faint hearted. You will be watching behind netting, as there are loads of fire crackers going off in the lead up time... coming out - we were bussed back, and went around the same autostrada a few times... and then left at the Port by the Police - you have to find your own way back to your Hotel - we came across a group of lads with bandanas over there faces down one street, and we quickly walked the other way....

If you're looking for trouble, it will find you, if you don't want trouble, it's just common sense to avoid it...

I mentioned to the wife that we were playing Napoli again, and s jokingly said would she like another trip down the Amalfi Coast, and she said 'Yes'.... hmmm, don't think so... I've done the Stadium once, and in these conditions, I think once was enough.... it WAS an amazing experience though, and I'm glad I did it...

Anyone going to Kharkiv?
3 of us booked up.
Expensive flight offset by being dead cheap there.

You need your wits about you the place is run by the local mafia the camorra so its wise to stick to well known areas. Couple that with the locals looking to pick off The English at will it can make for a pretty lively experience.

That said like anywhere if you use common sense you should be ok. Stick to the port area and dont go wandering off alone bladdered and if you can stay outside of Naples and just travel in for the Match

Caught you fibbing there Frank!! The music for this song was written by Bert Kaempfert with English lyrics by Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. :)
