This is Kerem Gokmen, a 43 year old academician (finance), one of the biggest Oasis and Manchester fan from Istanbul. I was in istanbul in 2005 liverpool-milan final. You (as city fans) probably heard great stories from pool fans about those days that they spent in istanbul. But istanbul (esp european side) changed a lot (in a very bad way) since 2005. European side (taksim) is not as it was as of today. Taksim region was not very secure in 2005 and it is worse now. Also all the pubs are gone, night life, parties and pubs are shifted to Kadıkoy (asian side, where i live) and the crowd there are mostly arabic people (dont wanna be racist, but that's how it is).
So i have recommendations for you guys for your visit, where to stay, before party and after party, for pubs, drinking etc.
So,
1- Book your hotels at Kadikoy Center. (Do not stay in the European side/THAT IS IMPORTANT) Lots of nice hotels; best pubs and bars street in Turkey (also in Europe), best night life is in Kadikoy. Very easy transportation. Best hotels are Kadıkoy Hilton (be carefull not Kozyatağı Hilton, it is also nice but a little bit far). I strongly recommend Wyndham Kalamis (i am a member of their gym); very nice terrace with pool and bar. The other hotels are also nice. But be carefull; chose a hotel near the center of Kadıkoy.
2- Best street of Turkey (also europe) is Bagdat Street Kadıkoy. Most of pub owners are my friends. You may also book a hotel near that street. There are not much.
3- For pubs, and drinking. Kadıkoy center pubs street is the best in Turkey (also in Europe). Pubs are open until 4.00 am. And the crowd living there are the best people (educated, rock guys) in Turkey. Very very secure place.
4- Best parties in Istanbul, best guys are partying (me also) in the seaside of Kadıkoy (Caddebostan / bagdat street). We drink and part there all day. The seaside is the best in Europe (believe me). All the teenagers are best guys are there, very crowded and secure. There is also delivery there, lots of liquor stores are open till 4.00 am ( it is not legal normally to buy alcohol after 22.00 in turkey)
5- Best places to eat, is also in Kadıkoy, especially bagdat street.

hi, this is Kerem from istanbul.
You are right. it is an olympic stadium. it is not very active also. outside the city. but transportation is not that hard (via metro). the view is awful. very windy (but probably it will not be a problem in june). grass is good.

If it gets moved it’ll be for civil unrest due to election results. I’m no expert, but I’d put it at a 1 in 100 chance.

The civil unrest would have to be so bad, the UK Government would probably also issue a do not travel, in which case airlines would normally allow cancellations/refunds.

But as I said, I think this is 100/1 odds …

elections goes to 2nd raund in 28th of may. erdogan will win 99%. so no civil unrest expected as of today (the situation was different before first round, last week, but the situation is calm now) so dont worry.
