Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

It is his meticulous attention to detail and passion for the game. It is just Pep. It is the same reason we win so many more than we lose and why he wins so many finals.

But usually he is subtle and things are barely noticeable without a keen eye. General play and tactics remain consistent. Last night I thought his lineup was about a high press swamping Chelsea. They aren't the best at playing out from the back and stopping Kante etc turning was critical to stop balls going forwards.

But we didnt press as a unit because too many players were unsure of where to be. It should have been abandoned after 20mins but Pep would have then had to destroy Sterling.

He early felt Sterling would rise to the game and Foden could dominate centrally as he did in the FA Cup semi. But by that point we were 1 down and still lost.

It was baffling. Maybe next season he will stick to tried and trusted until the very end and win us the CL.
And maybe not play such a high line because they get in behind us so often in that first half. It's sad actually that one team wants to play more open game and the other wants to live off the scraps ie mistakes of the other in order to be effective. All within the rules of the game by the way. How do you stop that ?

Chelsea's goal happened because Gundogan went missing so Stones had to fill in created a gap between Ruben and Zinchenko.

If Ferna was there then he would be stopping the attached whilst Stones and Ruben would still be handling the defence.

As everyone said it before the game, the formation lost us the game and our defense was struggling to compensate for us not playing with a defensive midfield and this affected the whole team.

I was hoping we would come out with more intensity in the second half and Sterling would be dropped for Ferna but that didn't happen. Sadly at the time when Ferna was brought in and we lost KDB the game was already lost! The team was already lost.

1 Shot on target the whole match????? In a CL Final? Seems we were given a piece of our own medicine and Chelsea was defending against us like we defended against PSG in the Semi Final.

You play in a final and if you get beat with some exceptional finishing you can accept it. That goal was horrific, centre halves vacating space leaving Ederson in no mans land. What we thought was fixed with being harder to get at was chucked out of the window, Chelsea looked dangerous every time they went forward.

You could see in the players body language when they were in the tunnel for the second half they lacked belief. I hope they go away and use this kick in the nuts to motivate themselves for next season as retaining the league is going to be difficult.
