Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

I'm fuming how from Mendy has the ball in his hands we was so out of shape where about 10/15 seconds later Havertz is through on goal.

I don't mind getting beat, but we just seem to switch off at key moments m

I think its pointless analysing the game or individual players, when the dye was cast with the selection. To pick Sterling (out of form), ahead of Fernandinho (on the top of his game, did you see him against Everton? he's the rock of the team) was baffling. Everyone on here said it before kick off. Much as I admire Pep, he is not infallible, and tonight he proved it. I think we will win this thing soon, but only if we play the best team.
Sterling 10 goals from 31 starts, Werner 6 goals from 35 starts - so why didn't Chelsea lose because they picked an out of form striker then? Complete bollocks, but that's why everyone on here are not top football managers.

If that works, why didn’t we bypass kante who was the best player on the pitch

I think to go around a player you need runners behind them, or people dropping off who become free.
In Chelsea's case the 3 CBs allows one to follow any one dropping off without leaving them short. The speed of Rudiger who clocked in at 4th in the league for the 2018 season, and higher, though i can't find a link more recently. Makes tracking runners easier. We also move up the pitch in a calculated way to prevent turnovers which has the negative of allowing the opposition to drop deeper and so stopping runs in behind. Our style of ball domination means Kante who is a great player has the ball going in and out of his zones constantly so he see's a lot of action against us perhaps why he was MoTM.
Mirror that to Chelsea who have willing runners in behind, two slower CBs to run off and when we get it wrong a lot of space behind us means they don't have to play through the area's a CDM they can go longer past him, or drop and use Werner to play 1-2's around them. They can also run off Ferna/Rodri easier as neither are as mobile as Kante is now.

Got back from the stadium but can’t sleep. Feel utterly deflated.

I think we all knew what was coming when the line-up came through. Sterling was gash but that was to be expected, what wasn’t expected was the rest of the team bottling it so horribly, but the biggest offender has to be Pep. Why just fucking why would you fuck about with a winning formula!?! Criminal not to start with Fenrnandinho or even Rodri. We lost that game due to lack of control in the centre.

Players looked nervous and our support wasn’t much better, outsung by the chavs throughout the game. There was a handful of us that tried, but it waned as the game progressed. Regardless we didn’t deserve that performance and the fact most of us spent 1k upwards rubs salt into the wounds even more.

Gonna be a shit journey back home and will take a few days to get it out the system.
We started with Ferno and Rodri in the FAC match. They dstarted with Werner who has a worse record than Sterling, didn't seem to do them any harm.

All right -here's a well thought out reason - or several. Gundogun doesn't support the defence, can't prevent counters, is a sitting duck on the counter, moves slower than a tank, is not creative - certainly no patch on David Silva, doesn't provide enough assists, can't shoot, loses his man constantly on corners, can't tackle.

He did get goals this year but they were tap ins mostly, helped by cancelo and Bernardo doing the donkey work in the middle he failed so miserably to do
How about this

He cant shoot
He cant pass
He cant tackle
Hes slow
David Silva was better
He cant defend
He cant create
He doesnt work

The three nominees from the club for the player of the season

Dias
Mahrez
Gundogan

Your well thought out reasons do not appear to be popular or correct

Watching it back hurts to watch, defense was all over the place, gundo waddling across the pitch at snails pace.. sigh

1st sentence, with you all the way, don't get all this crap about us not turning up tonight. That tackle to deny Foden, KDB not having to go off, their player maybe getting a red, all could have made the difference that swung the game. Reading through the comments on here you'd think we'd lost 6-0.
Absolutely. Maybe it felt like Chelsea had the „clearer, but if it wouldn‘t been for 1 seconds on few defense clearances Chelsea had.

Foden‘s chance (minute 27), Mahrez almost having a 1v1 vs Mendy (after Sterlings great pass and the better but very close Interception of chilwell in minute 9), Sterlings fuckup and good tackle by James (in minute 4) After Ederson‘s pass. Agüero‘s only first shot which was saved by Mendy 1 second late or the Ball little bit higher and a bit accurate Foden would stand infront of an empty net... Chillwell‘s save in the 5 meter area vs Foden and Mahrez‘s attempt of a dreamgoal in (minute 96) all fucking close stuff. Maybe we would talk about a game that city lost with few clear 100% chances or a game that could have been won by 2-3 goals.. but at the end it was a close lose.

Absolute nonsense.

There is no shame whatsoever in these same Blues tonight, who have seen this club grow from strength to strength, see their potential, only to see them squander it on the big stage, fall at the final hurdle.

Nobody is upset that "City lost", they're upset and disappointed at HOW we lost; no guile, no passion, no determination. Something the likes of Horlock, Goater, Dickov and Morrison et al would have scorned at. Losing via commitment and attribution is one thing. Losing via lack of intensity and co-ordination is another. There was just "nothing" tonight. THAT is what hurts.
I don't see it that way, I saw us stifled by a side that were very good defensively. It's that it's such a surprise to many that I don't understand, as though you simply have to play a certain XI to win. It doesn't work like that, we've seen it many times where we've played teams off the park and lost to a breakaway goal or long ball.

To slate some of those players and the manager in the way I've seen tonight is farcical.
