Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

This cheered me up.We are literally only missing out on a couple of million.:

2021 Champions League final prize money

The Champions League finalists will each get $18.3 million, but the winner will net an additional $4.88 million for automatically qualifying for the UEFA Super Cup, a one-off match against the UEFA Europa League winners, Villarreal CF.

  • Champions League Winner: $23.18 million
  • Champions League Runner-up: $18.3 million
The full outline of prize money for the current 2020-2021 edition of the Champions League follows in the table below. Making the group stage alone is enough for all 32 clubs to cash in an automatic $18.6 million. The more matches won in the group stage and the deeper a team advances, the bigger the financial rewards.

This season alone, Manchester City and Chelsea have already collected $75.2 million and $73 million, respectively, before taking into account the prize money coming to them in the final.

When you say “twice” which other game are you counting?

- When he played Gundogan right wing for the first time in his career at Anfield?

- When he played 442 away at Tottenham for the first time that season?

- When he went all out attack vs Monaco when we were already in the lead from the first leg?

- When he played 3 at the back for the first time that season against Lyon?

- Or maybe at Bayern when he inexplicably played 3 defenders marking Barca’s best forward line ever man to man?

He’s not only done it twice.

He does it every year.

It’s starting to feel like he’s not interested in winning unless he can be lauded as a genius for orchestrating the win.

Each of the above examples, and last night, his teams would have been far better off playing the way that had already made them successful.

He’s in with a shout of being the best coach ever, but he’s in serious danger of tainting his legacy with this insatiable need to be the centre of attention in the biggest games.
Also seem to recall KDB was playing on the left wing in the Lyon Game!

I think most of us feel that if we played the line up that won 23 on the bounce - Phil mostly out wide and gave it our best shot but lost, we could live with it. But we didn't and lost to a team that finished 19 points behind us - a colossally expensive team, but not a team on our regular winning level. That's the killer - we know we're a 19 points better team than them - the table doesn't lie.

The levels of self-delusion in this thread are reaching incredible levels.

What was the lineup that won 21 games on the bounce? I'd love to know. Name the XI.

Was it the 343 with Cancelo in midfield and Ake in a back 3 against Newcastle? Was it the 4231 we played against Chelsea with Rodri and Gundogan in a double pivot?

Did you want Jesus up front like we played 11 of the 21? Or a false 9 like we played the other 10? Cancelo at RB like he was for 7 of those games? or RB like he was for 8 of them? Or on the bench like he was for the rest?

There was no lineup that won 21 on the bounce. There were 21 different lineups in half a dozen different formations, and for almost every single one of those 21 games, people on here complained that he was changing the lineup too much, or trying something new. And then we'd win, and no one would credit Pep for coming up with a great formation or selection, they'd just keep quiet until the next lineup came out and it was time to whine again.

How can people not remember these things that happened just months ago?

Also, I'm sorry if this is rude, but who the hell thinks "Table doesn't lie" is a clever thing to say when out of the 19 point deficit to us, about 15 of those points difference between the side came under Frank Lampard?

Rags have been more vocal than i thought they would be.

I kept my powder dry fearing it backfiring.

Yet they are out in full force on social media with their rehashed Nursery playground jokes.

Rags have really short memories.

At least we got to a major European Final.

They couldn't even succeed in the UEFA Losers Cup,pathetic twats.

Good point and that’s the beauty and success of pep. Think there’s a feeling that the PSG 11 is our best 11, but none of us have any idea about the reasons for team selection. But the point being made by many of us is that in all those matches we had a DM.
