Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

Honest question now. If we won the next 5 leagues and no UCL would we be happy? I love the league and I love it more than any other competion but progress and our ultimate goal has to be the UCL. It goes from being what fans want to what is possibly best for City. Tonight hurts because I think deep down we know this. Otherwise we wouldn't care having already won the league. I'm gutted because I want to see City reach the peak of football.
We had a great CL (pretty much wiped out Dortmund and PSG, and most seem to think we had a tough draw) so this hurts more because I'm disappointed we didn't finish our fine campaign with the win our overall CL performance deserved.

But I've said this before -- we WILL be back in a final. I believe it. I more than believe it -- I KNOW it. And with most of this side, and this manager. So, no, I wouldn't be happy. I want to win this. We've made PROGRESS this season -- BIG progress -- not gone backwards. Fuck, we were two wins from a quadruple (!!), and if he stays healthy I truly believe Foden could be one of the world's best players. And he's 21.

Many of our side are young, young and hungry. This will drive them, not disappoint them. This will make them better.

This isn't our apex.

Loved how BT showed the potential pen from a camera at the back of the stand... no chance of seeing if it was or wasn’t. Of course Hoddle was on hand to say it definitely wasn’t before he even saw it.... clearly Eileen told him!

play that game again with the PSG starting 11 and we win
I mean 7 or 8 defensive players beat us . Do we realise that ? We couldn't score against them . Messi could on his day . He is possibly one player who could have provided the breakthrough against that Chelsea defense tonight along with Phil nearly did it . Striker Kane up top could hold it up maybe and lay it off ? We score first and they have to change they tactics. Do we know that ? Yes we do but it didnt come . The unthinkable happened .
said this pre match when the team selection came out

As over the top as I think the Sterling flak is at times, he can't afford to have another season like this one. It used to be that even if he's missing sitters he'd be creating havoc with his movement on and off the ball but he's not offering much at all when he plays, opposition are happy to let him have it these days and dispossess him when they choose to.
Imagine if he's as shit for England this summer as he has been for us this season, he'll come back after the Euro's with zero confidence and we'll have a hell of a job getting him right again.

Thomas Müller about Guardiola after quarter final loss last year ...

Similar to his mentor Marcelo Bielsa, Pep Guardiola sees it as his duty to give his players as much information as possible about their opponents. Peps brooding, his analytical skills and ideas, paired with the individual strength of the players, especially in the league, lead to the often extreme dominance of the Guardiola teams. "In the long run, Guardiola is therefore the best coach and his teams are the strongest," Bayern's Thomas Müller told The Athletic in February. Guardiola's 28 titles since 2008 cannot be ignored, even if it was only enough for the Carabao Cup this season.

Before knockout games, however, the coach may be too cerebral, torn between adapting to the opponent and maintaining his own style of play. "Sometimes it was therefore not one hundred percent clear what we were doing," said Müller. "Perhaps Müller is right," replied Guardiola at the time.

I really feel sorry for those who went. If our team had shown half the effort and a quarter of the organisation you guys showed in getting out there, then we would have surely won.

I should think some you will class the cost as the worst money you've ever spent, and for those that don't, well you must have secretly funded the club's purchase of Lee Bradbury!

I just hope that everyone gets back safely and avoids rising to the bait from celebrating Chelsea fans. Just ignore it and don't try to put right post match, what our players failed to put right during the game.

You've been let down once already. Don't let yourselves down.

Would of Fernandinho stopped Chelsea’s goal? The answer is no. Him starting tonight wasn’t the reason the lost. Bore off with that shite

many players will look at the line up and say i could have done better but the truth is city are not the finished article
a world class left back and 2 strikers and then we can go again next season

Can someone who watched it on TV tell me if it was handball?
Definitely not, body then arm.
It wasn’t a red card for Rudiger neither like some have mentioned.

We were simply outplayed, outworked, outsung, out-bottled, out anything else you can think of… even if we’d sneaked a penalty that shouldn’t have been given we wouldn’t have deserved it.
