Champions League Final | Screening at Mayfield Depot / other city centre venues

in Northern Quarter

Tib St Tavern
Pie & Ale
Shack
Calcio
Movement Bar
Crowne & Anchor
Turks Head
Crafty Pig
Waldorf

There’s tickets going for Freight Island too, the free ones have gone but theres some for £10 and you get a pie and a pint

Edit: it’s a Saturday night in the center of town though don’t wear a football shirt
Football shirts were fine 2 years ago, plenty of blues around town all afternoon/evening.

Depends which one you then plan to watch the game in I guess but Shack and Waldorf for example would be no issue.

for the Porto final against chelsea we watched in Shack bar,
was £35 each you got 5 pints / drinks (anything you wanted really),
and burger and fries, was pretty good atmosphere plenty of screens,
not sure if they doing anything like that again
I dropped them a message actually but haven’t heard back yet. It was a decent set up last time I thought and that was with the restrictions.

Yes it was good, wasnt sure when booked it thought they would just dump a bucket of beers on the table and that was it - no choice, but you could have anything, on tap, in bottles and spirits with mixers not doubles obviously, if i wasnt going to Istanbul i would be there if they do something similar again

I've not tried the Waldorf - might try go there. I watched the last final in Derby Brewery Arms in Cheetham Hill which was decent, near town and quite cheap. Which pubs are actually good for being around other blues near the city centre though? I can only think of these which are out of the way
  • Bradford Inn
  • New Grove Inn by the ground
  • Royal Oak in Didsbury

If that’s true, do you think that’s down to the bitterness of the relationship between the two sets of supporters in the city?

I can see why cities like Leeds and Newcastle might have more footy watching places cos it’s less likely to kick off maybe, but the comparison would be better with Liverpool, Sheffield or Birmingham perhaps.
Without stats we’re just guessing aren’t we, but it would be interesting to see them compared.

I don’t imagine the City/ United thing is much of a factor. I think more likely factors are:

Manchester City Centre is actually a pretty small area when you think about it. From the extremes of where Hulme turns into town to just behind Victoria is what, about a 15/20 minute walk? And from the edge of Ancoats to Salford? Similar, maybe less.

Town can be quiet in the week but on a Saturday which is still probably just about the main day for football, the place is absolutely rammed. Most bars main problem is getting people served in a reasonable amount of time, rather than looking for incentives to lure people in.

Also the price. The amount they charge pubs for Sky etc. is absolutely extortionate. I had a figure which I forget now that a landlord told me for a smallish pub on the outskirts of town. It was thousands per month. He simply couldn’t afford it and would never come close to recouping it with the extra custom it might bring.

Just booked 2 x 6 tickets for freight island, some more free tickets released today by looks of things was only the £10 ones left yesterday. Access only no reserved seating or anything like that. Probably start at Pellican and work down via Picadilly Tap.

Messaged Shack and it is £35pp for beer and food included, £50 if you want a booth with own TV

Is it Parklife too? Manchester will be very busy…
And Roger Waters at the Arena, which I stupidly bought tickets for before realising the Champs League final was late this year due to the world cup.
