It doesn’t depend on the time. The return test just has to be taken in the three days before. Gov website gives the example of a flight to UK on Friday can be done Tues, Weds or Thurs

Here’s the official text…

“Taking your test in the UK before travel
If you are returning to the UK within 3 days, you can use the result of a COVID-19 test that you take in the UK before you travel. You must use a private test provider for the test and not an NHS test.

The service on which you will arrive back in the UK must set off for the UK within 3 days of when you took the test.”

Have I got it right that if I take a test Thursday for a departure flight Friday, I won't have to take a pre flight test in Portugal on Sunday?

Confusing stuff this. Suppose I could book a postal test for the Wednesday, but that'd mean I'd need to take a pre flight test in Portugal to get home?

Is there more than 72 hours before your test time on Thursday and your departure time in Portugal on Sunday? If there isn’t you should be fine

I would still play safe and make sure the test is taken "within three days" as it says and no more than 72 hours before your departing flight. Not a precisely enough worded document from our Government.

It gives the specific example as well I mentioned

Take a coronavirus test before you travel to England

You must have proof of a negative coronavirus (COVID-19) test to travel to England.

You must take a test even if:

You must take the test in the 3 days before the service on which you will arrive in England departs.

For example, if you travel directly to England on Friday, you must take the test on the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

It's not. GOV UK website states 3 days, not 72 hours and cites an example that if you have a test on a Tuesday it does you for a flight on the Friday
Fair enough, sorry my mistake. Germany specifically says 72 hours and I assumed UK was doing the same.

Looks like you double jabbers may not need PCR test to go to Portugal. Depends when they actually implement it of course. May just be a bit too late for next weekend.

PS it is also being reported elsewhere with more reputable sources, but the DM doesn’t have a paywall
It is expected that if the ambassadors reach an agreement the decision will be formally adopted at the EU trade ministers council on Thursday (20 May).

Hopefully it will be with immediate effect to give people time to cancel their PCR tests and get a refund.

Having said that perhaps the 3 day period is a loose requirement and it doesn’t come down to hours.....Can anyone clarify?

Before I buy a test to take over with me has anyone found anywhere in Lisbon/Porto that offers the rapid LFT test?
